A proud moment for Machias Ambulance Service during EMS Week.

Last night, our crew and community participated in a traditional ceremonial “push-in” as we formally welcomed the newest ambulance into our fleet.

This ambulance will help strengthen emergency medical coverage throughout our region and will impact thousands of patients throughout its service life.

Thank you to our EMS clinicians, community members, town leadership, and legislative representatives for helping make this special evening possible.

Last night, Machias Ambulance proudly held a dedication ceremony for the newest ambulance added to our fleet during EMS Week.

We were honored to celebrate this important milestone alongside members of our community, the Machias Selectboard, town leadership, and members of the Maine State Legislature. Your continued support of emergency medical services means a great deal to our organization and to the clinicians who serve this region every day.

This new ambulance expands our fleet to four ambulances, strengthening our ability to maintain coverage, improve reliability, and continue delivering timely, high-quality emergency medical care throughout the communities we serve. As this year’s EMS Week theme reminds us, “Improving Outcomes, Together,” investments in EMS directly impact the care and service our patients receive when they need us most.

While this ambulance is a vehicle, it also represents much more than that. Every ambulance tells a story long before it ever responds to its first call. This ambulance will impact thousands of future patients throughout its service life, including individuals and families who may depend on it during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

We would especially like to thank our EMS clinicians and staff for their continued dedication, professionalism, and service to our communities. The ceremonial “push-in” was a meaningful way to recognize the work our crews do every day and formally dedicate this ambulance to the service of our region.

Thank you again to everyone who attended and helped make the evening such a success, and thank you for supporting Machias Ambulance Service and Emergency Medical Services during EMS Week.

Stay safe, we’re here if you need us.

This week we want to highlight and appreciate the dispatchers who are our lifelines during the day and in the middle of the night! The men and women at Washington County Regional Telecommunications Center are the kind of professionals who are constantly caring about their community and first responders! We know them by their voices, and we appreciate their dry humor, check-ins, and attempts to think of everything we need! This week is the time to show them how invaluable they are! To our dispatchers: we are so thankful for all you do, the stress and responsibility you carry on your shoulders, and being that voice that we can always reach out to! You are amazing!! 💛

Stay safe and call if you need us!

This week, Machias Ambulance was represented in Washington, D.C., where Chief Ryan Maker brought the voice and reality of our rural EMS system to the national stage.

Chief Maker met with the offices of Senator Susan Collins, Senator Angus King, and Congressman Jared Golden to advocate for issues that directly impact rural EMS systems like ours.

Discussions focused on the gap between Medicare reimbursement and the true cost of providing emergency medical care, as well as the importance of continued federal support for rural EMS programs such as the SIREN Act. These programs play a critical role in supporting training, equipment, and the long-term sustainability of services in communities like ours.

Chief Maker also highlighted the importance of the Town of Machias’ proposed LifeFlight Runway expansion project during his meeting with Senator Collins, who serves as the Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee. Chief Maker emphasized its potential to improve access to higher levels of care for patients in our region. We hope the Senate Appropriations Committee will support our Congressional Directed Spending request.

Rural EMS providers are often the first, and sometimes the only access point to healthcare for our residents and visitors. Ensuring that these systems remain strong and sustainable is essential to maintaining the level of care our community depends on.

Machias Ambulance appreciates the time and engagement of our congressional delegation and will continue to advocate for the resources and support necessary to serve our community effectively.

Stay safe, we’re here if you need us!
