Henderson County Emergency Management is monitoring the potential for winter weather beginning Friday, Jan. 23, with impacts possible through the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, confidence is high that a strong surge of Arctic air will move into the region late Friday and persist through the weekend. Confidence is also increasing that this cold air could be accompanied by wintry precipitation, possibly beginning as early as Friday afternoon.

At this time, freezing rain is the primary concern, along with possible sleet and ice accumulation. The exact type and amount of precipitation remain uncertain. Rain, freezing rain, sleet, or a mix of winter precipitation are all possible.

Temperatures may remain below freezing into early next week, which could lead to lingering travel concerns even after precipitation ends.

Henderson County Emergency Management is preparing and coordinating resources across the county to ensure needs can be met. Jurisdictions with concerns or unmet needs related to the upcoming weather are encouraged to contact the Emergency Management office.

Residents are encouraged to:

-- Begin winterizing homes and water systems now
-- Use caution when traveling this weekend
-- Continue monitoring official forecasts for updates

Please rely on trusted sources, including the National Weather Service, for accurate and up-to-date information. Computer model graphics shared on social media may not reflect the official forecast and can be misleading without proper context.

Additional updates will be shared as conditions become clearer.

Payne Springs Police Dept sends it prayers to his family at home and his blue family. We have the watch rest easy sir.

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of City of Kaufman Police Department, Officer Austin Cooley.

Officer Cooley was pronounced deceased on scene this morning, December 8, 2025, following a motor vehicle crash near the intersection of State Highway 34 and County Road 2186, approximately one mile south of Greenville, Texas, while traveling home.

Officer Cooley was not only an outstanding officer within our department, but he was also a caring mentor to new officers, a trusted colleague, and a true friend to so many. Above all, he was a devoted husband and father. His loss is felt deeply by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him and working alongside him.

We ask that you keep his family, friends, and our City of Kaufman Police Department family in your thoughts as we navigate this difficult time.

▪️ END OF WATCH: December 8, 2025 ▪️

Thank you for your service, Officer Austin Cooley. We’ll take it from here. 💙
City of Kaufman Police Department, Texas.
