Rice County Fire Dept recently purchased a used safety trailer from Newton Fire/EMS. This trailer replaces one that was destroyed in a storm a while back. This trailer allows the county to educate our youth in the much needed fire safety. This can be used as a smoke house, and also has kitchen safety, and storm safety complete with flashing lights and moving blinds to indicate lightning/wind. It has a tv set up with surround sound for storm videos and all. It was used at the Kids safety camp on Friday! Thank you Rice County for investing in the safety education of our children!

Scattered to numerous storms are expected to develop over much of the region for this afternoon into the evening hours. Some of the storms could become severe with large hail, damaging winds, and heavy rain. A few tornadoes are possible late this afternoon and early evening.

Fire units are coming upon several county roads in the SE portion of the county with flash flooding. 22nd, Ave Q are some of the roads with multiple areas of water across them. Units are staging on scene until Rice County Public Works can respond with barricades and personnel!

FOUND SAFE - STATEWIDE SILVER ALERT CANCELED

The Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office reported to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) that Ann Selders, 81, was located safe Wednesday evening.

The Statewide Silver Alert is now canceled.

The Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office requested the Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) issue a statewide Silver Alert for a missing Topeka woman.

The whereabouts of 81-year-old Ann Selders, of Topeka, are unknown and the public’s assistance is requested to help locate her.

Selders is likely driving a red 2016 Toyota RAV4 bearing Kansas tag 0848AHE. She was last seen in Ellsworth County on Wednesday, June 10, at approximately 7:00 p.m.

Selders is a white female who is around 5 feet 1 inch tall and weighs approximately 110 pounds. She has white hair and brown eyes. Selders has dementia and Alzheimer’s.
