Today, we pause to remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001, and to honor the courage, sacrifice, and unity shown in the days that followed. We also remember those we have lost - and continue to lose - as a result of 9/11-related illnesses, and all who continue to live with the lasting effects of this tragedy.

Among those who answered the call and traveled to New York City to assist were Deputy Sheriff William Carr, K-9 Quigley, and our own Sheriff, Robert Milby. 25 years later, we remain forever grateful for their service and for the bravery of every first responder who stepped forward during our nation's darkest hours.

We will never forget. 🇺🇸

⚠️ BACK-TO-SCHOOL SAFETY REMINDER ⚠️

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office welcomes all students, teachers, and staff back for another great school year!

With school back in session, children are once again walking along our roads and crossing streets on their way to and from school. We ask all motorists to slow down, stay alert, put away distractions, and watch carefully for young pedestrians—especially near schools, crosswalks, bus stops, and residential areas.

A few extra seconds of caution behind the wheel can prevent a tragedy. Let’s work together to keep Wayne County’s children safe!

🎒 Watch for walkers.
📵 Avoid distractions.
🚸 Yield at crosswalks.
🚌 Stop for flashing red school-bus lights.
