As many families gather today to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country, the Lyons Police Department would also like to remind everyone to celebrate safely this Memorial Day.

If your plans include fireworks, please remember that fireworks and alcohol do not mix. Every year, serious injuries and fires occur because someone attempted to handle fireworks while impaired.

Please help keep today safe for your family, neighbors, and first responders:
• Never light fireworks while intoxicated
• Keep children supervised at all times
• Keep water or a fire extinguisher nearby
• Do not relight malfunctioning fireworks
• Be mindful of homes, vehicles, dry grass, and nearby spectators

We want everyone to enjoy the holiday and make it home safely at the end of the night.

From the Lyons Police Department, have a safe Memorial Day as we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. 🇺🇸
