Wee Care Academy - Alderwood

Wee Care Academy - Alderwood A Premier Childcare and Preschool This is accomplished by use of a curriculum based on experiential learning.

The educational philosophy at Wee Care Academy is based on highly respected models of early childhood education dating back to Piaget. We believe that children learn best in a rich environment that encourages creativity, language development, and total involvement in the learning process. Through play, imagination-driven activities, and hands on projects based on the developmentally appropriate st

ages of a child’s growth, learning occurs in a wonderful way. The environment is structured to include a great deal of sensory stimulation – children learn about things as they see, hear, touch, smell and, sometimes, taste them. Language is developed as children learn to describe their experiences, share with others, and engage in the magical world of books and story-telling. Hands on activities encourage social interaction, spontaneity, and discovery of a joy in learning to learn. Each child at Wee Care Academy is valued as a unique individual with an abundance of gifts and talents to be shared with us and with the world at large.

The Washington State Legislature just passed a historic bill to make early learning more affordable for families and more sustainable for providers. In honor of child care provider appreciation day, we're celebrating the leadership that made this victory possible – especially the leadership of early learning providers who continue to hold us together through the best and the worst of times.

This. Is. Huge.

The Fair Start for Kids Act will provide the largest ever investment in early learning in our state's history. It will make early learning, including child care, preschool, and programs for infants and toddlers more affordable and accessible for families and more sustainable for providers. This historic victory follows years of tireless advocacy by parents, providers, and community leaders. There's more work to be done, but let's take this moment to celebrate first!

Greetings Wee Care Community & Alumni Families,

We hope this message finds you safe and well. This year has been difficult for so many and most of the annual rituals of the community have been postponed or canceled, including our spring silent auction. As we head into the end of the year we would like to ask any of you that are able to add Wee Care Academy to your holiday charitable giving.

While our auction goals are typically around funding repairs or new toys and activities, this year we are trying to stay in business. As you may be aware, approximately 40% of daycare centers nationwide are expected to close permanently this year due to the increased costs of caring for children during the pandemic.* Additional cleaning and PPE requirements along with adjusted staffing ratios and reduced classroom counts are decimating our finances. Wee Care has successfully, though barely, navigated 2020 but the situation is not improving as we head into 2021. Many families are currently relying on Wee Care to provide the caring, high-quality early education that your families received and we are asking for anything you can give to help us survive. We are a 501c(3) so all donations are tax-deductible and will have an immediate positive impact on dozens of your neighbors and friends as we try to keep our doors open.

All of us have endured a difficult year and perhaps a donation to Wee Care was nowhere on your radar for the end of 2020, or even possible given the hardships many are facing right now. But if you are able to give, the Auction Committee, staff, and Wee Care kiddos would certainly benefit from and appreciate your generosity.

Happy Holidays and we hope to see everyone in the spring.

Sincerely,

The Wee Care Auction Committee, Administration, and Families

Dear WCA Families,
The last couple of weeks have been heartbreaking and emotional for many of us. While we try to protect our children from the worries of the world, they cannot help but notice and observe the events happening around us, along with our own emotions. The recent murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and others are horrific and a shared trauma for all of us, especially for our families of color. As a mother, I am incredibly saddened and have struggled to talk to my son about ugly and painful topics such as racism and police brutality. I am still struggling and will continue to struggle, as I am sure will you.

For tips on talking to your young children surrounding the current events, please read the following articles: https://parents.britannica.com/how-to-talk-with-young-children-about-the-george-floyd-protests/ and https://www.gse.upenn.edu/news/talking-children-after-racial-incidents

For support on having deeper conversations on race, racism, and racialized violence, please visit the Center for Racial Justice in Education's website here: https://centerracialjustice.org/resources/resources-for-talking-about-race-racism-and-racialized-violence-with-kids/?fbclid=IwAR1rfm1QuXWolfScz4D8-tTEAkTf3qNeyGVl_xDbpq5Gjckok-GSb_ShoJo

Wee Care Academy's most prime objective is to make sure ALL children and families are welcome and we are blessed that our families also hold this principle dear. Teaching kindness to those around us, empathy to other people's experiences, and advocating for themselves and others when help is needed are the core parts of WCA's Social/Emotional Curriculum and is woven into every interaction the staff and children have together.

Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. In the time of COVID-19, when spending time in physical closeness with our loved ones is difficult, it is especially important to reach out and connect when we are experiencing grief from our shared trauma. We are all in this together to help make the world safe for all children to grow up in.

Peace and Love,
Erica Nealious-Grall, WCA Administrative Director
