Verdant Health Commission

Verdant Health Commission We are working to improve the health and well-being of our community, by educating and empowering residents to make healthy lifestyle choices.

The Verdant Health Commission funds a wide range of programs that empower people in South Snohomish County to make healthy decisions and get the care they need to stay well. For nearly half a century, we served the health needs of our community by managing the local community hospital. We are now focused on investing in innovative programs that will make a lasting impact on the health and well-bei

ng of South Snohomish County residents. Funded mostly by lease income from Swedish Health Services, revenue also comes in the form of interest income and property tax.

Yesterday, Verdant was proud to bring together an incredible group of leaders and partners from across South Snohomish County for a meaningful and inspiring conversation about youth mental health.
Representatives from healthcare, education, government, and community organizations came together to share insights, discuss the challenges that young people and families face when seeking support, and explore how we can work more collaboratively to strengthen our systems of care. The energy, commitment, and shared purpose in the room were truly encouraging.
An article from the Everett Herald provides an excellent recap of the discussion, and the clips below capture just a few highlights from the day.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who participated, shared their perspectives, and contributed to such an important dialogue. Together, we have an opportunity to create lasting positive change for the youth and families in our community, and we look forward to continuing these conversations and partnerships in the months ahead.

Consultant Kathy Solberg shared a synthesis of what partners across sectors have been saying gathered from dozens of 1:1 interviews and focus groups conducted over the last several months. Access remains the defining barrier — wait times, insurance, language, geography. The coordination gap is also a central structural problem.

The afternoon agenda shifted to a World Café Model of interactive table discussions to gather perspectives from the 100 attendees.
Round 1 – What?: What resonated in the morning session? What is happening in our system? Describe the landscape from where you sit.
Round 2 - So What?: What does it mean? Where are the patterns, tensions, and gaps?
Round 3 – Now What?: What could we do differently? Where could we move together?

It’s been exciting to see the continued growth of the community garden created with Mercy House at St. Pius X Catholic Church. The plants are growing healthy and strong, and the garden is coming to life as preparations continue for it to eventually support families with fresh produce and community programming.

Verdant was proud to support this collaborative project alongside many incredible community partners and volunteers, and we look forward to watching the garden continue to grow and thrive.
