WMA isn't just a bunch of old women having coffee or going to lunch. They are active in the community. They are a driving force behind taking care of our troops and our Veterans. This chapter was very active in shipping to those who were deployed in harms way in forward bases where little was getting through. With the majority home they switched to collecting for the Veteran food pantry, concentrating on assisting our Veterans at the VA hospital and those at the Chesterfield Michigan Veteran Home. They launched initiatives to start a mothers' pantry to help young parents with diapers, formula, and other essential items. Once the uniform comes off, they still continue to serve.

1948 12 Jun | Women's Armed Services Integration Act of 1948 authorized 100 regular Women Marine officers, 10 warrant officers, and 1,000 enlisted in a gradual build-up over a two year period with regular candidates coming from Reserve Women Marines on active duty or those with prior service not on active duty.

WMA is proud to have and as one of our long‑standing legacy partners. Their commitment to serving our members and supporting our National Conventions has never wavered. Whenever we call, they stand fast — just as they always have.
As we prepare for the 2026 WMA National Convention, we’re excited to welcome them once again. Be sure to stop by their table and say hello. Their support helps us continue our mission of honoring, connecting, and empowering Women Marines from every generation.
Thank you, GEICO Military, for your continued dedication to WMA and to all who have worn the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor.

WMA wants to give a huge shout‑out to our FL‑2 Florida Gulf Coast Chapter, located in the Tampa area, for being selected as our WMA Chapter of the Month — and it is so well‑deserved.
This chapter embodies what it means to be a Woman Marine: service, sisterhood, and showing up for others. Whether they’re packing bags for our active‑duty Marines and Veterans, presenting the WMA MCJROTC Award to outstanding cadets, or planning new ways to stay engaged in their community, FL‑2 is always in motion and always leading with heart.
They never hesitate to support our National Conventions and consistently step up to represent the very best of who we are as Marines.
Thank you, FL‑2, for your dedication, your energy, and your unwavering commitment to our mission.
You make the Corps — and the Women Marines Association — proud.

1946 7 Jun | Approval by CMC Women's Reserve Policy Board recommendation for retention of a small number of women on duty to serve as a trained nucleus for possible mobilization emergencies.
At first, only those women who had served honorably in World War Il as reservists were appointed or enlisted in the regular Marine Corps. The first regular women officers were selected from among war-time reserve officers who applied for transfer. Twenty received such appointments, including the present Director of Women Marines, Col Katherine A. Towle, who had also served as second war-time director of the MCWR and held, at the time of her appointment in the regular Corps, a commission as colonel in the inactive reserve.
