As you probably have already seen, unfortunately I was not successful in winning a seat on the Lynnfield School Committee. While the process of running for an elected position was certainly stressful at times, it was also incredibly rewarding! Over the last three months, I met so many new families, and heard so many new perspectives. Seeing our community come together, many stepping outside their comfort zone, to fight for better schools and a better future for our children was a positive and enlightening experience.
Congratulations to my opponents, Rich and Stacy, on their re-election.

There are several people I need to thank for their help along this journey. First and foremost, thank you to my family, my biggest fans! My husband Giuliano and my three kids Amelia, Violet and Callan. They filled everyday with constant love and encouragement, and without their support, none of this would have been possible.

Thank you to my campaign manager, Donna Hegan and to the group of fierce moms who made up my committee. They worked hard every day and without them, this campaign wouldn’t have been as amazing as it was! I am so grateful for the life long friendship that formed from this campaign.

Thank you to the Lynnfield Community! Words cannot express how thankful I am for all of you! Over the last 3 months, I have received many emails, phone calls and texts of support. You have showed up in the rain and the cold, hosted yard signs, held signs and waved. You have reached out to your friends and families and encouraged them to learn more about me and my platform, and most importantly, you showed up to VOTE!!

While I didn’t win the election, I will not stop fighting and working hard for all of our children! Parental involvement, truth and transparency still matter, more than ever. If these are values that matter to this district, then we all need to be accountable for those things - private citizens and elected officials alike. I encourage everyone to keep watching, come to public meetings and make sure you are heard and being represented.

With Gratitude,

Corrie Luongo

In case you missed it, here is my candidate statement from yesterday's paper. Thank you so much for the continued support!

Great education starts at home and flourishes through a strong partnership with the school-wide community. I’m running for School Committee because I believe that our schools can be run better: more efficiently and effectively to meet the diverse needs of ALL students and ALL families.

My campaign is centered around truth, transparency, and parental choice. Over the last two years, I’ve heard loud and clear the frustration from Lynnfield parents (myself included) about the chronic lack of responsiveness from our current School Committee to their significant and well-researched questions and concerns—regarding ongoing bullying, lowering of standards, controversial curriculum topics, ill-defined and poorly communicated equity and diversity initiatives, and the budgeting of federal funds.

Before voting on April 12th, ask yourself these questions:

Have you, the parent/grandparent, been heard AND received a satisfactory response (or any response) from our current School Committee? Are you confident that our School Committee is following its own policies and state laws? (Note: there are now Open Meeting Law determinations of violations by the Lynnfield School Committee, with more pending review by the Attorney General)
Have you, the taxpayer, questioned how school funding (your tax dollars) and ESSER funds have been spent (on masking, vaccination clinics, and teaching controversial subjects), while placing fundamental learning and enrichment programs on the back burner?
Have you had to fight for basic learning plans and additional help for your child to ensure he or she can be successful at Lynnfield Public Schools (I have!)?
Have you witnessed your child struggle in school while pleading with the district to secure additional help through IEP/504 planning, respective testing and implementing services (I have!)?
Does your child have a learning difference, disability, or allergy that you feel is not being handled conscientiously, leaving you uneasy for every minute of the 8+ hours/day he or she spends at school (mine do!)?
Have you questioned if you should leave Lynnfield Public Schools for parochial or private schools?

I firmly believe that we have some of the best teachers around, but they’re teaching in a flawed school system. If any of the above questions gave you pause, it’s time for our community’s voices to be respectfully heard and responded to, not just tolerated during public comment.

As a member of the Lynnfield School Committee, I will advocate for ALL STUDENTS, ALL PARENTS, and EXCELLENCE IN OUR SCHOOLS by:

Setting clear expectations for student achievement by returning to teaching fundamentals, continuing to offer a robust enrichment program, and encouraging more female students to join computer science, programming, and STEM programs.
Ensuring spending decisions are rooted in local needs with a continued vision and PLAN for future budget needs.
Implementing an accelerated learning program for students in all grade levels who can accept greater academic challenge, positioning them to compete for admission to top colleges and universities
Supporting and encouraging public participation during School Committee meetings, and ensuring, as a Committee, that responses are timely and available to all LPS families and Lynnfield taxpayers.
Reviewing the process for vetting and accepting books into school libraries to safeguard against inappropriate content.

With three children in each level of Lynnfield Public Schools—elementary, middle and high school—I am deeply invested here. The schools here are my children’s future, they’re not approaching my rear view any time soon! We chose Lynnfield deliberately for the quality of its public education at that time. I believe strongly in our public education system and I believe there is room to evolve and improve. Our kids deserve the best and their education is my top priority.

I promise to ask the hard questions – something that is sorely missing today.

My opponents may be incumbents, but I offer the combined benefits of a fresh perspective and a strong dedication to the parent community. School Committee deliberations should be open, comprehensive, and at times, challenging. Decisions should not all be unanimous. Our current School Committee desperately needs greater energy, focus, direction, and responsiveness, and I am excited to offer that to the children, families, and taxpayers of Lynnfield.

This upcoming Tuesday, April 12th, I respectfully ask for your SINGLE VOTE for Corrie Luongo for School Committee. Thank you!

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at [email protected], or find me at Elect Corrie Luongo, Lynnfield School Committee.

With gratitude,
Corrie Luongo

Title: Luongo will Pull for Parents and Children

Dear friends and fellow Lynnfield residents: I hope this letter finds you well and enjoying the first signs of spring. I am writing this from the heart of a mother, and I hope the message resonates within each of you.

I ask you to vote for Corrie Luongo for School Committee on April 12th. Corrie Luongo is a name that may be new to most, however, I believe Corrie has already earned herself a seat on the School Committee because she possess three (3) intrinsic qualities necessary to lead and have a positive impact: courage, self-sacrifice, and a !can-do” spirit!

Regarding courage: I think we can all agree in today"s extremely sensitive politically- charged climate, most people are afraid to be transparent about their position on...well...what seems like anything truly worthy of substantial discussion. In spite of this, Corrie was willing to step forward from a very large group of residents who share the concerns & desires of her motherly heart; which is to be more informed of, and involved in, the decisions that impact our children"s education, and by extension, their futures!

Regarding self-sacrifice: I also believe we can all relate to the constant feeling of being over-extended. I"m sure this busy, full-time working, mother of three children (each in a different one of our schools: LHS, LMS, & SSS), Corrie feels no different. But she is willing to sacrifice time away from her family to serve as a voice for the mothers and fathers in this town who believe they are not having their questions answered nor their concerns addressed.

If you are wondering what I am referring to, I am speaking from personal experience about the controversial curriculum content (CRT, CSE, etc.) being forced into school systems to be eligible to receive federal money. Please do not simply take my word for it; do a few quick internet searches to find the content I am referring to. You might not think these initiatives have reached Lynnfield, but it seems we are heading in that direction, if not already there. I can speak about it first hand.

My family was personally impacted by sexually explicit materials in our schools. One of my daughter"s former teachers at the Lynnfield Middle School suggested she read, !Home After Dark” by David Small. I would barely have believed the content to be true if I hadn"t seen it with my own eyes! Not only was it deeply disturbing for me to realize what could potentially be picked up by any minor visiting the LMS Media Center, but my daughter was also noticeably confused and violated. Why would a teacher suggest a book that is questionable, let alone so sexually and morally explicit? Needless to say my husband and I had many questions! And truth be told, I still do.

It would be understated to say my family was disappointed in the School Committee"s response to the situation we found ourselves in. Many of the members are held as beloved contributors to our town, and deservingly so. I also do not believe their actions were malicious in any way, but that does not excuse or explain the lack of an appalled response to such sexually explicit content being provided to our children. Lynnfield would benefit by a new perspective and a parental advocate on the Committee. Corrie is new, but she shares the heart and mind of many concerned parents in our community! Corrie believes in the guiding principles of truth, transparency, and humility. She will carry those principles in to each School Committee meeting on behalf of the community.

Lastly, regarding Corrie"s !can-do” spirit: I see it evidenced in the way she has taken her frustrations in to her own hands by doing something about it! This is someone I am willing to both give a chance and my trust. We need a new voice at the table: someone who will champion parents" and taxpayers" concerns. Corrie Luongo has volunteered to be that person for us. Let us all show our gratitude by rallying behind her and casting a vote for Corrie Luongo School Committee on April 12th.

Corrie welcomes all questions. Do not hesitate to contact her at [email protected]

ps: It would serve everyone well to read Cecil C. Ogren"s March 16th letter regarding parental involvement and curriculum transparency. He is right on the money!

Please mark your calendar to vote Tuesday, April 12th!
(7a-8p at Lynnfield High School!)

I would be honored to have your support and your vote!

I pledge:

-to always advocate for the diverse needs of ALL of Lynnfield's children

-to include parents in all that goes in in the schools, and,

-to be responsive to inbound questions and concerns with truth and transparency

The decision who to support with your vote(s) is yours and yours alone.

Recognizing and respecting that: I want to share that the surest way to add a new voice to the School Committee is by casting a single vote for Corrie Luongo (do not cast your second vote).

Casting a single vote promotes me above either of my opponents (I do not believe they have ever not voted together on the School Committee).

Casting a second vote for either of the other candidates will advance one of my opponents and jeopardize my chances of success.

You absolutely should get to know all candidates and make informed decisions at the polls.

If you'd like to maximize my chances for success, however, I encourage you to cast a SINGLE vote for Corrie Luongo on Tuesday, April 12th.

The decision how to vote is, of course, yours alone to make!

Thank you so much for your continued support!

With gratitude,

Corrie

It was an absolute honor to meet and spend time with our future governor, Geoff Diehl for Massachusetts Governor and Lt. Governor Leah Cole Allen today at Boston Clear Water Company in Lynnfield. I learned so much about the history of this water source and my family and I will drink water from this source from now on. If you haven’t tasted pure water straight from the earth, then you are missing out.
I am proud to support Geoff and Leah as they lead our state and schools to bigger and better things!
