Mission

The Bergen Community College Paramedic Science Program is committed to prepare competent entry-level Emergency Medical Service – Paramedics in cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills) and affective (behavior) learning domains. Program Structure

The Bergen Community College Paramedic Science Program began in the fall 2014 semester at the Meadowlands campus located in Lyndhurst New

Jersey. The curriculum follows a workforce development model meaning all general education courses are completed in year one and then paramedic core courses are completed in year two. The paramedic courses will be completed in 12 months allowing the student to obtain licensure within a compressed timeframe. There will be some flexibility with clinical assignments but lab/lecture days will follow a set schedule during the 12 months. All students will receive an AAS in Paramedic Science. The Paramedic Science Department is committed to high quality education. The Paramedic Program will offer a small class size with adequate faculty – student ratios. Students will be assigned peer and faculty mentors to assist in their success. During the curriculum ample evaluations will be provided in cognitive, psychomotor and affective domains of learning. At the end of the education process, students will take the National Registry Examination for Paramedic. Once students successfully pass this examination process, they will also gain New Jersey Paramedic Certification. The curriculum is intense both in knowledge content and quantity of information. Students who are willing to put in adequate time to study in addition to attending classroom assignments should be encouraged to pursue this field of study. The program is full-time and requires additional hours outside of the classroom, lab and clinical/field rotations to prepare and memorize information related to the program. Beyond the academic agility, applicants must possess personal traits that will facilitate their success in this demanding profession such as professionalism, consciousness, agreeableness, ability to adapt to change and the ability to effectively handle stressful situations.
