The department contributes to a healthy, active and educated community;providing stewardship and management of parklands, trails and civic facilities and creating opportunities for all people to participate in a rich variety of recreational activities. The City of Lynchburg Department of Parks and Recreation offers a variety of services and activities to residents and visitors. We maintain 17 parks, which offer organized and open areas for recreation, enjoying a picnic, fishing, canoeing and kayaking, and children’s play. Over 40 miles of our trails wind through Lynchburg and are suited for a variety of activities including walking, mountain biking, hiking, and running. Community residents also enjoy the use of nine recreation centers, which are utilized for planned group programs, birthdays, baby showers, community meetings, and their outdoor amenities.

A big thank you to the 19 volunteers who joined us for the 27th Annual James River Regional Clean-up on Saturday! Together, our community collected an incredible 480 pounds of trash from the James River and surrounding areas. 🧀 🌿

Much of the litter collected was single-use plastic, including soda bottles and wrappers. By removing this waste, our volunteers helped protect wildlife, improve water quality, and keep one of our region’s most valuable natural resources beautiful for everyone to enjoy.

Thank you to everyone who rolled up their sleeves and helped make a difference! Every piece of litter collected adds up to a healthier James River. πŸ’ͺπŸ’™
