The department contributes to a healthy, active and educated community;providing stewardship and management of parklands, trails and civic facilities and creating opportunities for all people to participate in a rich variety of recreational activities. The City of Lynchburg Department of Parks and Recreation offers a variety of services and activities to residents and visitors. We maintain 17 park

s, which offer organized and open areas for recreation, enjoying a picnic, fishing, canoeing and kayaking, and children’s play. Over 40 miles of our trails wind through Lynchburg and are suited for a variety of activities including walking, mountain biking, hiking, and running. Community residents also enjoy the use of nine recreation centers, which are utilized for planned group programs, birthdays, baby showers, community meetings, and their outdoor amenities.

Whether it's your 6-year-old's first time on a dance floor or your own long-overdue return to it, we have a class for that this summer. ☀️

The Miller Center Dance Program is running youth, adult, and 50+ sessions in July covering ballet and modern, tap, belly dance, Afro-Caribbean, and line dance. No experience required for most classes and scholarships are available for those who qualify.

Family Play Day: Music in the Park features award-winning children's musician Sara Ernst, whose nature-inspired songs get families singing, moving, and enjoying the outdoors together. After the music, cool off at the Sprayground and enjoy one of Lynchburg's favorite parks.

🎾Summer evenings just got a lot more fun.🎾

Our tennis lessons start June 29 at Peaks View Park for ages 4 all the way through adult. Kids build real fundamentals and older players work toward match-ready skills. The whole family can be on the courts. $75 for residents, and some sessions are already filling up.

The Lynchburg Community Market is partnering with Sentara to bring FREE healthy snack demos for kids and families on June 6, June 20, July 11, and July 25 from 9am to noon. Stop by as part of your Saturday morning routine for a free bite!
