Lynchburg Lifesaving Crew

Lynchburg Lifesaving Crew The Lynchburg Lifesaving Crew is a 100% volunteer organization providing the highest quality first a in downtown Lynchburg.

"Greater love hath no man than this: that he lay down his life for his brother." - The Lynchburg Life Saving and First Aid Crew, Inc., motto, 1934. The Lynchburg Lifesaving Crew was founded in 1934 after a series of tragic events struck the community. Since then, we have been Lynchburg's only 100% volunteer Emergency Medical Service. We were the third-oldest rescue squad in America, and are proud

to continue the tradition of excellence to this day. An overview of the Crew's rich history is available on our website at www.rescue9.org

We operated 2 medic units, 1 utility truck, 1 command unit, and a Disaster Response Unit from our station on Memorial Ave. We operated in full integration working together with Lynchburg Fire Department, although we are separate agencies. We rely 100% on donations from concerned community members, because we do not have any outside sources of funding.

Don’t wait to get help if you experience any of these heart attack warning signs. Some heart attacks are sudden and intense. But most start slowly, with mild pain or discomfort.

Pay attention to your body and call 911 if you experience:

• Chest discomfort. Most heart attacks involve discomfort in the center of the chest that lasts more than a few minutes – or it may go away and then return. It can feel like uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness or pain.
• Discomfort in other areas of the upper body. Symptoms can include pain or discomfort in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw or stomach.
• Shortness of breath. This can occur with or without chest discomfort.
• Other signs. Other possible signs include breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea or lightheadedness.

Since 2007 EMS has increased its volume over 40%. In 2013 the LFD Administration, City Manager and City Counsel took the Lynchburg Life Saving Crew OUT of the E911 response system. We had two medic units that could respond to emergency calls and serve the citizens of Lynchburg and continue to generate revenue for the City budget. As an integrated department with LFD, there could have been a creative solution to staffing our ambulances 24/7 but instead, they were short sighted. The City is suing the Lynchburg Life Saving Crew for our headquarters. Six years later, the tax payers in Lynchburg are paying for the City Attorney and outside legal counsel for a frivolous law suit rather than allowing qualified volunteer EMTs and first responders to serve the citizens in their time of need.

The Lynchburg Life Saving Crew is proud to once again extend a scholarship to a deserving student attending CVCC this summer to obtain his EMT certification and compliment his athletic training degree he is completing at University of Lynchburg. Congratulations to our deserving applicants and ultimate award winner.
