A wildfire has been reported in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in the Caribou Point area of Pipestone Bay. The Muskeg Creek Fire is estimated less than 1/10th acre. Firefighting resources are assessing suppression options. Updates will be provided as information is available. Public are asked to stay out of the area for their safety and firefighters’ safety.
Drones are NOT allowed near the fire area and are illegal in federally designated wilderness areas.

Upcoming AT&T Scheduled Work and Outage 8 a.m. to Noon August 17th

August 10, 2026- The Cook County Sheriff’s Office has been informed by AT&T that on Monday, August 17, AT&T will be performing necessary equipment upgrades on the Grand Marais tower. The work is scheduled to take place between 8:00 a.m. and approximately noon.

During this maintenance window, the site will experience a full service outage. AT&T encourages its customers to utilize Wi-Fi calling during this period and apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause.

The Cook County Sheriff’s Office is sharing this information to help residents plan accordingly. Please reach out to AT&T directly for any questions.

• Bogberry Fire. Approximately 1.5 acres. Location–About 2 miles south of Bogberry Lake. Cause–Lightning. Aircraft and firefighters are responding. Managed by Superior National Forest.

New Wildfire– Mueller Fire, located on the southeast side of Mueller Lake along the shoreline, Gunflint Ranger District. Size–Approximately 0.10 acre. Firefighters are responding to conduct full suppression activities.

10 acres. 0% Contained. Location–near Finstad Lake, east of Buyck. Difficult access. The Superior National Forest will conduct aerial wildfire suppression on the fire. Lightning caused.

Tonight Lutsen fire/EMS members simulated a water rescue integrating our rope launcher and new drone. We were able to drop a rope and water activated life vest successfully to a test subject. Thank you to all who helped us get this drone

Our training this week included a few of our neighboring departments! We got to train on car extrication with the Tofte and Schroeder fire Departments. Special thank you to the Tofte General Store and Big Joe’s for helping us make this happen!
