Media Release:

🚨 ILLEGAL DUMPING LEADS TO CRIMINAL CHARGES 🚨

Sheriff Larry Jones and the Stewart County Sheriff’s Office want to remind everyone that we have zero tolerance for illegal dumping in our county.

A Phenix City, AL man is facing charges after illegally dumping at the county dump site on Julia Road in Omaha, GA.

According to Sheriff Larry Jones on May 24, 2026, Corporal K.D. Hodges was on patrol in the area when he observed a suspicious person and vehicle with an Alabama tag dumping into the county dumpster.

As a result, Joseph Lamb of Phenix City, AL was arrested and his vehicle was impounded. He has been charged with Unlawful Dumping and was transported to the Stewart County Jail for processing.

Sheriff Larry Jones wants to remind everyone that the Stewart County Sheriff’s Office takes illegal dumping seriously and remain committed to keeping our county clean and safe. Residents who see illegal dumping or areas of concern are asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 229-838-4311.

𝗖𝗟𝗜𝗖𝗞 𝗜𝗧 𝗢𝗥 𝗧𝗜𝗖𝗞𝗘𝗧

The Stewart County Sheriff’s Office will be participating in the 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗜𝘁 𝗢𝗿 𝗧𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘁 Seat Belt Awareness and Enforcement Campaign in partnership with the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety and law enforcement agencies across the State of Georgia.

Beginning May 18th through May 31st, deputies will be actively watching for seat belt violations and working to help keep our roadways safe for everyone traveling through Stewart County. Wearing your seat belt takes only seconds, but it can save your life and the lives of those riding with you.

Georgia law requires front seat passengers in all vehicles to wear a seat belt. All children between the ages of 8 and 17 are required to wear a seat belt when riding in the front and back seat and children ages seven and under are required by law to ride in a child safety seat that is recommended by the manufacturer based on height and weight of the child.

Sheriff Larry Jones would like to remind everyone that your safety is our priority. Wearing a seat belt is one of the simplest and most effective ways to protect yourself and your passengers every time you get on the roadway.

Distracted Driving Enforcement Week is underway in Stewart County.

Stewart County Sheriff's Office joins the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety and national traffic safety partners in reminding everyone that one text, one call, or one moment of distraction can change lives forever.

Sheriff Larry Jones would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that the State of Georgia is a hands-free state, O.C.G.A. Section 40-6-241. Stewart County deputies will be putting additional focus on education and enforcement of the Georgia’s hands-free law to help prevent crashes and save lives.

Sheriff Larry Jones encourage everyone traveling our roadways to put the phone down, slow down, and always buckle up. Safe driving starts with keeping your eyes on the road, your hands on the wheel, and your full attention on driving.

Distracted driving occurs when a driver’s attention is diverted from the road. Common types include:
•Manual: taking hands off the wheel (e.g., holding a phone, eating, adjusting controls)
• Visual: taking eyes off the road (e.g., reading texts, looking at a screen or billboard)
• Auditory: being distracted by sound (e.g., loud music, conversations)
• Cognitive: losing mental focus (e.g., daydreaming or thinking about other concerns)

Remember:
• Eyes on the road
• Hands on the wheel
• Mind on driving

Let’s work together to make our roads safer for everyone.
