Thank you to all that volunteer.

Thank you to all that volunteer.

Today, in a time when it is very hard to recruit volunteer personnel, I want to personally thank the dedicated volunteer firefighters throughout Robeson County who give so much of their time to protect our communities.

These men and women leave their homes, families, jobs, and sometimes even their dinner tables at a moment’s notice when the call comes in. Whether responding to a house fire, vehicle crash, medical emergency, natural disaster, or assisting law enforcement, they are always there when our citizens need them most.

Volunteer firefighters don’t do this for a paycheck. They do it because they have a heart for service and a commitment to their neighbors.

Please join me in thanking these dedicated men and women for their sacrifice, courage, and service. 👏👏

Citizens of Robeson County, we're asking for your help.

Volunteer fire departments across our county are facing a serious shortage of volunteers.

This morning at 5:00 a.m., our department responded to a structure fire alongside two neighboring departments. When the first units arrived, heavy fire was already coming through the roof, as reported by Robeson County Communications.

Despite the severity of the fire, only 9–10 firefighters responded between all three departments. Of those, a few were operating trucks and water supply, command staff were managing the scene, and only a handful of firefighters were available to actively fight the fire.

Thirty/fourty years ago, when many of us first started in the fire service, volunteers would have been rushing out the door to answer that call. Today, many of those dedicated firefighters are still serving, but they're getting older and carrying more of the workload than ever before.

The reality is simple: we need help.

We need more volunteers. We need younger men and women willing to serve their community. We need people who are ready to step up when their neighbors are having the worst day of their lives.

This morning's fire was a clear reminder that our volunteer fire service is hurting, and we cannot continue without community support.

If you've ever thought about becoming a firefighter, now is the time. Your community needs you.
