⚓️ Dock talk, fish tales, and marina magic! 🎣🌊

Yesterday, City Manager Aldrich, Councilor Kreinbrink, and Mayor Barnett met with Marina Manager Jim Christensen to chat all things marina — from current projects at both marinas to the status of Dock A, fish cleaning stations, and keeping our waterfront ship-shape for another busy season!

Here’s your Harbor View Dock A construction update:

🔧 Contractors are currently hard at work on water and electrical utilities.
🛠️ Our structural contractor will be back on site next week to finish assembling the dock.
⚡ Electrical work will take a bit longer due to the size and scope of the project.

Like any good “fish story,” this project has had a few unexpected twists and turns, putting us about three weeks behind schedule. But all of our contractors have been doing an amazing job and have been incredibly patient through the process. We appreciate everyone’s hard work as we reel this project in! 🎣

If all continues to go smoothly, we anticipate Dock A opening the week of June 15!

And speaking of fishing… the spring bite has been HOT!
We’ve also connected with our fish waste disposal contractor, and all fish cleaning stations have been cleaned out for the time being. Marina staff check the stations daily and clean them regularly to help keep things fresh, functional, and ready for your next “catch of the day.”

Thanks for your patience as we work through these improvements — the finish line (or should we say shoreline?) is getting closer every day!

Big Dreams for Blodgett Park — Straight From Ludington’s Future Leaders!

When Stacey Kraft asked her 2nd grade classroom to take on a project-based learning initiative centered around designing improvements for a City park, we knew it would be creative… but we could have never imagined just how thoughtful, detailed, and inspiring these students would be.

The students researched, planned, collaborated, and even PRESENTED their ideas to community leaders — and honestly, we’re still blown away by what these young minds accomplished.

Now, we are excited to share their vision for Blodgett Park (AKA Legion Park) with the community and hopefully help turn some of these incredible ideas into reality!

And let us tell you… these kids came prepared. Their military-themed park ideas include:

🪖 Obstacle courses
🛢️ Tank-themed trash cans
🪑 Below-grade seating areas (inspired by Waterfront Park!)
🛡️ Tank benches
🚁 Helicopter-themed play structures
⚓ Navy vessel playground features
🧒 Expanded play areas for younger children
🚻 Additional seating, trash cans, and bathrooms

Basically, these 2nd graders understood the assignment.

We cannot wait to share their slides, designs, and presentation with the community. Their excitement, creativity, and passion for improving Ludington is a shining reminder that great ideas can come from any age group.

If you’re interested in helping make these students’ dreams for Blodgett Park a reality, we’d love to hear from you. Because when a group of 2nd graders dreams this big for their community… we think that deserves some serious backup.

Representatives from the City of Ludington came to LES today to hear the proposals from Mrs. Kraft and Mrs. Bates' second grade class on improving Blodgett Park at the American Legion. Students presented survey data and their creative ideas to make the park better for kids and families. Our city reps were already discussing immediate improvements to be made in the near future. A special thank you to Mayor Barnett, Councilor Terzano, Downtown Ludington Director Heather Tykoski, DPW Superintendent Andy Larr, and Friends of Ludington City Parks rep Cori Rodgers for working with our students! This project was an AMAZING learning experience with great outcomes for our community!

A Big THANK YOU to Covenant Christian School! 🙌

The City of Ludington would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the students and staff of Covenant Christian School for their incredible efforts during their “Serve Up Love” Service Week!

Through their hard work and dedication to serving the community, these students are rolling up their sleeves and helping make downtown Ludington shine. From collecting trash and pulling weeds to washing windows and spreading woodchips, the students are working tirelessly to help beautify public spaces and keep our community looking its best. Their efforts truly make a visible difference throughout downtown.

We especially appreciate the thoughtful donations of snacks and treats provided to City staff as a thank you for the work done to serve the community. Those small acts of kindness go a long way and were greatly appreciated by the many departments and employees who help keep Ludington running every day.

You are a shining example of how young people can make a real difference in their community through generosity, service, and compassion.

Thank you again for helping make Ludington stronger, brighter, and just a little more full of love. These kids have one more day of service left to complete. So if you see them around town, please stop and thank them for all of their hard work and love for our community!
