Cooling Centers and Community Assistance During Heat

ODESSA, Texas — As temperatures continue to rise across the Permian Basin, Odessa Fire Rescue, Odessa Police and the City of Odessa encourages residents to take precautions to stay safe and hydrated. Community partners are offering cooling spaces and other resources for individuals who may be affected by the extreme heat.

Residents who do not have access to adequate cooling are encouraged to utilize the following community resources:

Salvation Army of Odessa
810 E. 10th Street
- Opens when temps reach over 100 degrees
- Advice for people to enter the building off 10th Street (not 11th Street)
- Want to help? You can bring bottled water to the address above or make a monetary donation. Link: https://southernusa.salvationarmy.org/odessa

Ector County Library
321 W. 5th Street
- Open from 9:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Odessa Fire Rescue, Odessa Police and the City of Odessa reminds residents to limit outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours, drink plenty of water, check on elderly neighbors and family members, and never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles.

Anyone experiencing a heat-related emergency should call 911 immediately.

⚽️ FIFA World Cup means more visitors on Texas roadways - and more opportunities for criminals to exploit vulnerable individuals.

As thousands travel our highways during FIFA World Cup activities, Troopers and CID Agents (Criminal Investigations Division) remain vigilant for signs of human trafficking while working to reduce crashes and keep roadways safe.

Human Trafficking is often hidden in plain sight. A routine traffic stop or suspicious activity report can lead to the identification of victims and the arrest of traffickers.

👀 Know the signs

▪️Individuals who appear controlled by another person
▪️Inconsistent stories about where they’re going
▪️Signs of fear, abuse, or inability to speak freely
▪️Lack of identification or personal belongings

📱If you suspect human trafficking, report it by contacting the National Human Trafficking Hotline @ 888-373-7888 or utilize our iWatchTexas app. The information you provide could save a life.
