Our team recently traveled to Washington, DC for the United Way Worldwide Advocacy Forum and Hill Day!

Brett Thigpen had the opportunity to present on one of our newest policy initiatives, the Public Policy Fellowship in partnership with Texas Tech University. We are excited to offer students a unique, real-world look at public policy and advocacy in action right here in our communities.

A special congratulations to Maddie Booe, who served as our Public Policy Fellow before graduating from Texas Tech University this May! 🎓 We’re proud of all she accomplished in this role and can’t wait to see what’s next for her.

During the trip, Brett, Libby, and Maddie gained valuable insights at the forum and then put that knowledge into action by visiting legislative offices on Capitol Hill, including Congressman Jodey Arrington, Senator Ted Cruz, and Senator John Cornyn's offices.

We’re grateful for opportunities like these that help strengthen advocacy efforts and bring community voices to the table.

What a great day at the Business Expo at the Civic Center! 💙

We loved getting to connect with local businesses, nonprofits, and community leaders who are all working to make Lubbock stronger. Days like today remind us how powerful collaboration can be when people come together for a shared purpose.

We’re excited to continue growing relationships, expanding our network, and finding new ways to support our community together.

Check out that check! We are so grateful for Kappa Delta at Texas Tech and their continued support of the Children's Advocacy Center. Their $17,300+ donation allows us to continue our mission of serving children across the South Plains who have been victims of physical and sexual abuse, neglect, and trauma. From forensic interviews to therapy, these donations are helping us speed up the healing for the children we serve.

Life in West Texas can be tough sometimes.. long days, stress, uncertainty, and pressure can weigh heavily on anyone.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, we want our community to know that mental health is just as important as physical health. Taking care of yourself is not weakness, it’s necessary. 💚

Thank you to Family Counseling Services and the many organizations working every day to support mental wellness in the Lubbock area.

If you’re struggling, reach out. Your community is here for you.

Mental health matters; and so does reminding people they are not alone. 💙

During Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re encouraging our community to check in on one another, prioritize mental wellness, and help reduce the stigma around seeking support.

At Lubbock Area United Way, we’re grateful for partners like Family Counseling Services who provide critical mental health resources and support for individuals and families across our community.

Sometimes the strongest thing you can do is ask for help.

Read Like a B.O.S.S. took place on May 12 and was a huge success! This program focuses heavily on STEM education and gave students an engaging, hands-on learning experience centered around literacy and innovation.

With the support of volunteers and community partners, we reached 955 students across 20 school districts and 56 classrooms throughout the region. The majority of participating students were in 4th grade, with a few 5th grade classrooms included as well.

Each student received a book to take home along with a STEM activity connected to the story, encouraging continued learning and curiosity beyond the classroom. Volunteers spent time reading with students and helping guide the hands-on STEM experiences that made the day both educational and fun.

A special thank you to Frenship ISD for allowing us to host media coverage and photography at one of their elementary campuses while also participating as one of the many districts involved in this year’s event.

We are incredibly grateful to our sponsors, GECU and Atmos Energy, as well as all of the volunteers who helped make Read Like a B.O.S.S. possible and continue inspiring a love of reading, learning, and STEM exploration in students across our communities.
