Well everyone, the cold and nasty weather has arrived on the South Plains. Please do not get out on the roads unless absolutely necessary.
Also, as a reminder, space heaters draw a lot of power. You should never plug a space heater into an extension cord for this reason. Heavier draws can cause cords and surge protectors to melt and become a fire hazard.
If you must use a space heater:
1. Plug it directly into a wall outlet.
2. Make sure to set it on a hard, steady, and flat surface.
3. Keep all flammable materials and objects a minimum of 3 feet way from the space heater.
4. NEVER leave it unattended.

Remember to bring your pets inside, out of the cold and remember to check on your neighbors!

Stay warm folks! We are here if you need us but let’s try to get through these next few days safely!

Cold weather is headed our way this weekend, with the chance of ice and snow. We wanted to share a few friendly reminders to help keep everyone safe.
Bundle up if you have to be outside. With these temperatures, hypothermia can set in in as little as 15 minutes. If you’re using a space heater, plug it directly into a wall outlet. Please don’t use extension cords. Keep all heaters at least 3 feet away from anything that can burn.
Bring pets inside if you can. If not, make sure they’ve got a warm, dry place to get out of the cold.
Watch your step on icy sidewalks and driveways. Ice makes for an easy fall. Try to stay off the roads unless travel is absolutely necessary.
Take care of yourselves and check on your neighbors if you’re able. Stay warm, stay safe, and as always, if you have an emergency, call 911!

Happy Independence Day from the Buffalo Springs Lake Volunteer Fire Department!

🚨 A friendly reminder: while we understand the volume of visitors is high this weekend, please ‼️ DO NOT BLOCK THE ROADWAYS ‼️ at any point during your visit to our beautiful community. We have to ensure emergency services are able to respond to incidents as quickly as possible. 🚨

🧨 Firework fact: Did you know… a sparkler reaches temperatures up to 1200°, or more, and is the leading cause of fireworks injuries in children under 5 years old? 😳

Please be cautious while you celebrate with your loved ones this year. Observe safety protocols, keep a close eye on children and pets to ensure safe distances from hazards, and ensure that drivers are distraction free and focused while navigating around the lake.

We are looking forward to our best celebration ever. As always, thank you for your support!
