Communities in Schools - South Plains

Communities in Schools - South Plains Bridging the gap between home and school for students to succeed both in school and beyond since 1999 🌟 The five Communities in Schools basics:
1.

A one-on-one relationship with a caring adult;
2. A safe place to learn and grow;
3. A healthy start and a healthy future;
4. A marketable skill to use upon graduation; and
5. A chance to give back to peers and community. Communities in Schools - South Plains uses evidence-based programs and services that address the academic, non-academic, cognitive, and social and emotional factors that directly

affect students' ability to persist and be successful not only in school, but throughout their lives. Founded in Lubbock in 1999 and chartered by the national Communities in Schools office in 2000, Communities in Schools - South Plains has increased the number of children served from approximately 100 on three campuses in 1999-2000 to over 2,100 on 54 campuses during the 2015-2016 school year.

More time in school means more time to learn, connect & grow.

Research performed by Harvard examining millions of Texas student records found that CIS services were associated with approximately 46 additional school days attended for every 100 students in CIS schools. The research also found that improved attendance was connected to stronger academic performance and graduation outcomes!

That's why the work happening outside the lesson plan matters inside the classroom, too. 📚

We’re proud to partner with South Plains Food Bank to help meet student needs right where they are.

This school year, Site Coordinators across the South Plains will begin with a stocked food pantry, with support from the H-E-B Tournament of Champions helping replenish supplies throughout the year.

Together, we’re removing barriers and helping students stay focused on learning, growing and succeeding. 💙

September is Attendance Awareness Month, but attendance is about more than a number on a report.

Every day in school gives students another opportunity to learn, build relationships and keep moving toward what's next. When something outside the classroom makes showing up harder, our Site Coordinators are already inside schools, ready to listen, understand what's getting in the way and connect students and families with support! 📚✨

We’re so excited to announce our partnership with the South Plains Food Bank to help stock campus pantries with nutritious food and snacks throughout the school year, providing additional support for students and their families! 🍎✨

Partnerships like this are what make our work possible. By bringing community resources directly into schools, we can help students get what they need to focus on learning, growing, and reaching their potential.
