As National Police Week comes to a close today on National Peace Officers Memorial Day, we pause to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities.

In 2015, our agency lost one of the very best — Sgt. Kerry Mitchum. Sgt. Mitchum was a true fixture in our community. He always had a smile, a joke, a kind word, or a helping hand for anyone who needed it. His legacy of service and compassion continues to live on through all who knew him.

Today, we honor and remember Sgt. Mitchum and all officers who have given their lives in the line of duty.

We also remember Officer Dylan Owen of the Citronelle Police Department, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty yesterday. Our hearts, thoughts, and prayers are with Citronelle PD and Officer Owen’s family, friends, and fellow officers during this incredibly difficult time.

Gone, but never forgotten. 💙

Congratulations to our newest Public Safety Telecommunicators, Kayla Raines and Dakota Hays, on successfully completing the APCO Public Safety Telecommunicator 1 Course! 🎉📞🚓

Throughout this course, they gained valuable knowledge and hands-on training in emergency communications, including call-taking procedures, radio communications, stress management, liability awareness, crisis intervention, officer safety, emergency dispatch fundamentals, and the critical role dispatchers play in keeping both responders and the public safe.

Their hard work, dedication, and commitment to serving the community have already shown, and we are proud to have them as part of our team. The voice on the other end of the radio or phone can make all the difference during someone’s worst day, and Kayla and Dakota are now even more prepared to answer that call.

During National Police Week, we want to give a huge thank you to our dispatchers here at the Loxley Police Department for keeping our officers fueled up with snacks and drinks!

While officers are the ones seen out on the road, dispatchers are the calm voice behind every call, keeping things running and making sure everyone gets home safe. We appreciate everything they do for our department each and every day.

Thank you to our dispatch team for the thoughtful goodies, the constant support, and for always having our backs. We are lucky to have such an amazing team!

The Loxley Police Department is warning residents about a fraudulent text message scam involving fake “court enforcement” notices like the one shown below.
📄 What to know: This document is NOT legitimate. Scammers are sending texts with links or QR codes directing victims to pay supposed fines or toll violations. The notice may appear official, using government seals, case numbers, and threats of legal action.
⚠️ Red flags in this scam: • Mentions Alabama, but lists a court in Missouri
• Urgent threats like “Final Notice” or “Immediate Action Required”
• Requests payment through a link or QR code
• Generic or inconsistent court information
🛑 DO NOT: • Click any links
• Scan QR codes
• Provide personal or financial information
✅ What you SHOULD do: • Delete the message immediately
• Report it to your carrier or visit reportfraud.ftc.gov
• Contact your local court directly if you’re unsure about a legitimate citation
