Lewis County has released the results of the EMS Sustainability Study by CGR 🚑
The report looks at ongoing challenges in the EMS system, including fewer volunteers, rising costs, and increasing call volume.
Today, the county relies on 207 volunteers, 25 paid staff, and 13 ambulances across seven bases—only 2–3 of which are staffed 24/7.
CGR outlined two options to improve system reliability:
Option 1: A supplementary EMS unit at Lewis County General Hospital with 2–3 ambulances for transport and 911 backup. Estimated cost: $1.7M annually.
Option 2: If the current model becomes unsustainable, create a county‑managed EMS service that still integrates volunteers. Estimated cost: $3.7M annually.
