Dissensio est progenitor democratiae (latin)
"Dissension is the progenitor of Democracy"
meaning: disagreement, conflict, and the division of opinions are necessary for a democratic society to function and evolve. The statement views dissension not as a threat, but as a foundational element that pushes the political system toward progress
This is the fundamentals to our Democracy. From the very beginning we were to "debate" how we want to form our Country and society. The Declaration of Independence and Constitution have set forth inalienable rights to all individuals. One of which is to debate, and have difference of opinion. With recent events that happen to both sides of the aisle unfortunately some do not understand the difference between "debate" and "hate"
24 years ago today an event occurred that brought our Country together in our time of need. There was no red, blue, green, yellow, purple. It was individuals helping individuals. It is my hopes that recent events over the past few months that we can remember we are all in this together and many times there is a middle ground, or a solution that can be made through healthy "debate" and not blind "hate"
Each official takes an Oath of Office. In that Oath we not only promise to uphold the Constitution of the United States, the Constitution of New York, but to perform our duties to the best of our abilities. Once we are sworn in; it is our duty to help all our constituents (red, blue, green, yellow, purple)
Our Country was formed on difference of opinion, and to keeping moving forward as a country this difference needs to continue, but it also needs to realize that because you get in a "debate" you don't need to "hate". Nine times out of ten there is a "common sense" solution. Our fore fathers realized this and it is now our duty to remember this.
