The mission of the Lewis County Planning Department, at the direction of the Lewis County Board of Legislators, is to provide services to our municipalities and citizens to ensure that carefully planned and successful development occurs within the County.

The excessive rain we have been having this summer may cause septic systems and or leechfields to fail. If you are experiencing this, please check out the mapper tool (link below) to see if your property may be eligible for the Septic Replacement Fund.

The NY State Septic System Replacement Fund Program provides funding to replace cesspools and septic systems in New York State. This grant program’s goal is to reduce the environmental and public-health impacts associated with the discharge from cesspools and septic systems. The program targets cesspools and septic systems in close proximity to priority waterbodies.

📣📣Check It Out 📣📣

Round 4 of the NYS Septic System Replacement Fund Program has expanded to include 19 priority waterbodies!

This program provides cost-share funds to replace substandard septic systems located on or near identified priority waterbodies. This includes systems that were designed to dispel directly into the water body. If you are unsure if your system directly discharges into the water body, a dye test can be performed at no cost. New systems are not eligible.
