🇺🇸 Honoring Our Own 🇺🇸

Today, Lewis County Search and Rescue was honored to join the VFW for a remembrance ceremony marking the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001.

As we remembered the lives lost that day, we also reflected on an important part of LCSR’s own history. In the aftermath of the attacks, members of LCSR answered the call and traveled to assist with response and recovery efforts.

Today, we recognize those members and thank them for representing LCSR through their service during one of our nation’s most difficult moments.

That history remains with us today. LCSR was gifted a piece of the Twin Towers in recognition of our involvement following the attacks. It now hangs in our Crew Quarters as a permanent reminder of those we lost, those who responded, and the responsibility we all share to never forget.

We are grateful to the VFW for inviting LCSR to be part of today’s remembrance.

🇺🇸 September 11, 2001 | 25 Years Later 🇺🇸

Twenty five years ago today, our nation experienced a tragedy that forever changed the course of our history.

On September 11, 2001, 2,977 innocent lives were lost in New York City, at the Pentagon, and aboard Flight 93 in Pennsylvania. Thousands more carried the physical and emotional effects of that day with them in the years that followed.

Today, Lewis County Search and Rescue joins our nation in remembering every life lost and every family that was forever changed.

As members of the emergency services community, we also pause to honor the firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMS professionals, dispatchers, rescue personnel, and countless others who ran toward danger when every instinct would have told them to run away. Many made the ultimate sacrifice that morning. Others continued working at Ground Zero and the other attack sites for days, weeks, and months, with some paying a tremendous price for that service years later.

We remember the ordinary people who became heroes through extraordinary acts of courage. We remember the strangers who helped one another. We remember a country that, in the face of unimaginable tragedy, came together.

A quarter century has now passed. An entire generation has grown up knowing September 11 only through photographs, videos, stories, and history books. That makes our responsibility to remember even greater.

Today, we ask our community to take a moment to remember those who went to work, boarded a plane, reported for duty, or simply began an ordinary Tuesday morning and never returned home.

May we honor their lives not only through remembrance, but through service, compassion, and looking out for one another.

25 years later, we remember. We honor. We will never forget.

🐾 Caring for Every Member of the Family

Lewis County Search & Rescue would like to extend a huge THANK YOU to Patrick and Deondra Morse for their generous donation of oxygen mask kits specifically designed for dogs and cats!

Thanks to their generosity, each of our ambulances will now carry a set of animal oxygen masks, giving our crews another important tool when responding to emergencies involving our four-legged community members.

These masks come in multiple sizes and are designed to create a better seal around the muzzle of a dog or cat, allowing oxygen to be delivered more effectively than with equipment designed for people. They can be especially valuable following fires, smoke exposure, trauma, and other emergencies where an animal may be struggling to breathe.

Our human patients will always remain our first priority, but emergencies do not always affect people alone. Pets are family, too, and when circumstances allow, we want our crews to have the right equipment available to give an animal in distress the best chance possible until appropriate veterinary care can be reached.

Patrick and Deondra, thank you for seeing a need and helping us fill it. Because of your generosity, there will now be one of these kits on every Lewis County Search & Rescue ambulance. ❤️🐶🐱🚑

🇺🇸 Happy Labor Day from Lewis County Search and Rescue! 🇺🇸

Today, we recognize the hard work, dedication, and determination of the people who keep our communities moving forward every day.

At Lewis County Search and Rescue, we are especially grateful for our employees and volunteers who give their time, energy, and talents in service to others. Whether answering a call, participating in training, maintaining equipment, supporting operations behind the scenes, or simply being ready when our community needs us, your commitment makes LCSR what it is.

We also want to recognize the hardworking people throughout Lewis County and beyond. No matter the job, every contribution plays a part in building and strengthening the communities we call home.

For those enjoying a well deserved day off, we hope you have the opportunity to relax and spend time with family and friends. For everyone working today, especially our fellow first responders, healthcare workers, public safety personnel, and others who keep essential services running, thank you.

🇺🇸 Happy 250th Birthday, America! 🇺🇸

Today, we celebrate an incredible milestone—250 years of the United States of America! Since July 4, 1776, generations of Americans have worked together to build, protect, and strengthen the nation we call home.

🇺🇸 Fun Fact: There were an estimated 2.5 million people living in the United States when the Declaration of Independence was adopted. Today, more than 340 million Americans call this country home—a remarkable testament to 250 years of growth, perseverance, and opportunity.

At Lewis County Search & Rescue, we are proud to serve our community and carry forward the spirit of helping our neighbors when they need us most.

As you celebrate this historic Independence Day, enjoy time with family and friends, make lasting memories, and please celebrate safely.

Happy Father’s Day from Lewis County Search & Rescue!

Today, we recognize and celebrate all the fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, and father figures who lead by example, offer strength in difficult times, and provide unwavering support to those they love.

Many of the qualities that make great fathers—service, sacrifice, patience, leadership, and compassion—are the same qualities we see every day in our volunteers and community members.

To all the dads who answer the call at home, at work, and in service to others, thank you for everything you do. Your dedication helps make our families, communities, and future generations stronger.

Yesterday, we celebrated an important milestone for six members of the Lewis County Search & Rescue family as they completed their final classroom session in the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) program.

along with their instructor, Kelly Caraccilo, whose guidance and dedication helped make this achievement possible.

Completing the classroom portion of the program represents countless hours of studying, hands-on skills practice, and commitment to providing a higher level of care to the communities we serve.

Their next step is successfully completing the New York State certification examinations to become certified AEMTs.

Please join us in wishing them the best of luck as they prepare for the final stage of their journey.

Today, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice secured the freedoms we enjoy every day, and their courage will never be forgotten.

At Lewis County Search and Rescue, we understand the meaning of service, commitment, and sacrifice. While today is often spent with family, friends, and the beginning of summer traditions, we also recognize the deeper purpose of this day and the heroes it is meant to remember.

We encourage everyone to take a moment today to reflect, remember, and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation.

To all who have lost loved ones in military service, we hold you in our thoughts today.

Please stay safe throughout the holiday weekend, look out for one another, and never forget the true meaning of Memorial Day.

Some people see the ambulance.
Some see the uniform.
But behind so many EMS providers is a mother who helped build the person inside of it.

A mother who stayed awake until we made it home safely.
A mother who answered late-night phone calls when the bad calls weighed heavy.
A mother who taught us compassion long before EMS ever did.
A mother who sacrificed quietly so we could serve loudly.

And for the mothers in EMS themselves… there are no words big enough.

You leave holidays, dinners, birthdays, and sleep behind to answer calls for complete strangers. You carry the stress of this profession while still somehow carrying the weight of being “mom” when you walk back through the door. You comfort patients all shift long and still come home to comfort your own families afterward.

This profession asks a lot from people. It asks even more from mothers.

So even if this post is a little late, the gratitude is not. Today and every day, we recognize the incredible mothers who serve their families, their communities, and this profession with strength, heart, and selflessness.

To every EMS mom, every mom supporting someone in EMS, and every mother we carry with us in memory — Happy Mother’s Day. 🚑❤️
