LOWNDESBORO VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT NEEDS YOU!
Dear Citizens of Lowndesboro and Surrounding Areas,
Twelve years ago a group of 13 volunteers completed a 160 hours Fire Training Certification Course, and due to the dedication and hard work of these volunteers, residents of Lowndesboro and surrounding areas were able to receive significant savings on their homeowners’ insurance. The insurance rating dropped from a class 10 to a class 7 because we now had a trained and active volunteer fire department, which meant an average 50% reduction in costs for most homeowners. We do not need to lose this benefit, and we especially do not want to lose the benefits of emergency and fire assistance!
Since that time, for various good reasons many of these volunteers have been unable to continue responding to calls. Currently, only 2 or 3 volunteers are able to respond regularly. Calls are infrequent; however, we do want to be able to help when needed. We are currently in dire need of volunteers.
The LVFD will be hosting a BBQ Chicken Dinner Wednesday, September 8, 2021, on the grounds of Marengo at 6pm for volunteers, potential volunteers, inquirers, and spouses. We would like to invite you to join us to see if you would be interested in helping. Attendance at the dinner does not denote commitment. There will be a meeting after the dinner for informational purposes.
Please keep in mind that there are roles for those who are not physically able to fight fire, such as driving the truck, pump operations, truck maintenance, and clerical assistance. The initial training for new volunteers will be a 30 hours basic firefighting course.
We ask that you share this invitation with anyone who might be interested – in the Lowndesboro, St. Claire, and River areas. Please RSVP for the dinner to me by text or phone call at 334-235-3609, before September 1st.
Sincerely,
Dennis Blair, LVFD President
