Start the year off right with a January 1st walk at Anderson Marsh!

After a one-year pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Anderson Marsh State Historic Park will again offer a free, community nature walk beginning at noon on New Year's Day as part of America's State Parks "First Day Hikes" program."

The “First Day Hikes” offer individuals and families an opportunity to begin the New Year by getting outside, enjoying nature and welcoming the New Year with friends and family.

The hike will include parts of the Cache Creek, Marsh and Ridge Trails. This 3½ mile loop will include the Cache Creek riparian habitat, the Anderson Flats grasslands and the oak woodlands on Lewis Ridge. The hike will pass by an Acorn Woodpecker granary tree and a vernal pool.

The hike will take between 2 and 2 ½ hrs. Participants are welcome to go part way and make an early return at their own pace.

Participants should bring water and snacks and binoculars if they have them, and should wear sturdy shoes and a hat. Steady rain will cancel the walk.

For more info, or to confirm in case of rain, contact AMIA at [email protected] or at (707) 995-2658.

Anderson Marsh State Historic Park is located on Hwy 53, between Lower Lake and Clearlake.

Hope to see you at Anderson Marsh on New Year’s Day!

Habitat Is Home

A Habitat is the place where wildlife lives. The place where it can find food, shelter, water and be safe. Anderson Marsh is made up of different habitats, Tule marsh, grasslands, and an oak forest along Lewis Ridge. Here along the Mc Vicar Trail we see Tule marsh and an oak tree looking across Cache Creek towards where the creek and Clear Lake meet.
