There was really nobody else like her.

Today we're remembering Dolly Parton, one of the true icons of country music. That big personality, that Southern charm, and a lifetime of music, movies, and generosity that brought so many of us joy. She was also a huge champion for kids' literacy, starting the Imagination Library back in 1995, which has now put more than 300 million books into the hands of children across the U.S.

Sending love to the Parton family as they mourn the loss of their beloved Dolly. 🤍

Join Lowell Philharmonic Orchestra Music Director and Conductor Marshunda Smith for a free evening of listening, remembering, and storytelling.

Bring a sound recorded on your phone, an instrument if you play, or simply a memory: church bells over the Merrimack, the noise that meant supper was ready, the bell that called you in before dark, or the hum you would know anywhere.

You are warmly invited to share a short story, or nothing at all. No musical skill and no performing required. Just the music of Lowell, told by the people who live it.
