Coreyforstaterep Candidate for The 16th Middlesex District (Centralville, Pawtucketville, Westlands, Vinyl Square, North Chelmsford)

Current: Lowell City Councilor.

Candidate for Lowell City Council - Centralville (District 2) seat. I am a lifelong resident of Lowell. I understand what it takes to get things done, and I know how much knowledge and wisdom my neighbors bring to the table, too. I attended our public schools, forged lifelong friendships at the Boys & Girls Club, and graduated from Lowell Middlesex Academy Charter School. When I was young, many of

my peers struggled to achieve success because of the lack of opportunities available to them in our community. My campaign for City Council really started with an opportunity from the City when I was 14. I got a job in Lowell’s Summer Youth Employment Program. That city job turned into a calling: I realized that I loved serving my community by working to improve its neighborhoods. I haven’t stopped since. I worked for the Department of Public Works for 15 years, and my colleagues chose me as our Union President. This year’s election system changes give Centralville’s problem-solvers a chance to shine. I’m ready to advocate for my neighbors of Centralville on the Lowell City Council. I know that Together We Make A Difference.

As we commemorate Juneteenth, a pivotal moment in history, one concept emerges as paramount: communication. From the enigmatic hieroglyphics of ancient civilizations to the intricate tapestry of modern languages, communication serves as the conduit for transmitting information. Robust and transparent communication channels facilitate problem-solving, organizational structure, and the dissemination of information. These essential functions are indispensable for the functioning of both organizations and society as a whole.

Juneteenth stands as a testament to the culmination of a long struggle for freedom, a struggle that was ultimately thwarted by the deliberate obstruction of communication. The longer vital information was withheld, the greater the financial gains accrued by the architects of the slavery movement. While we celebrate this hard-won freedom, it is imperative that we reflect on the profound significance of transparency and unwavering commitment to open and clear communication in all our endeavors.

When I stumbled into the world of union activity 23 years ago, there were two gentlemen that shaped and guided what that endeavor should look like. Both Keith Rudy and paul George’s led by example. They didn’t understand the average working class due to classroom studies, they lived it. They weren’t tourists in the industry, they were the industry they set out to advocate for.

Over the past twenty years, I have been fortunate to have been able to have Mr. Georges not only answer my calls but also spend countless hours advising me on strategy and train of thought when it came to fighting for our hard working families we represented.

Tonight, attending the Merrimack Valley Central Labor Council’s fundraiser where they paid homage to the legacy this labor legend has solidified, filled me with mixed emotions. Selfishly, I hate to see him move on to the next chapter of his life. As a human, I completely understand and celebrate this natural progression. The organized labor world has lost a silver back gorilla when it came to raising the bar in what leadership looks like. The type of advocate that made many municipal managers tremble and curse.

May you thoroughly enjoy the next chapter my friend. Your friendship and mentorship is appreciated much more than I could ever express using the English language. Thank you for all you have done for so many to improve not only the quality of life for your employees and the students they educate but also for the up and coming union advocates that learned from your example.
