With heavier rains upon us, I found it to be a good opportunity to inspect one of our neighborhoods larger concerns, the Apple orchard project. As our neighborhood has repeatedly expressed concern, the storm water mitigation efforts on this site are far from adequate. The movement of silt and sand from this location are pretty apparent. You can see the heavier deposits dropping off along the runoff path but some of the finer particles are making their way to First Street.
This storm water led migration of these particles end up clogging our antiquated infrastructure (catch basins) as well as deposit into our watershed areas carrying along anything that may be in the soil at this property. I will definitely be working to address this issue. With all of our construction projects, we need policy, regulation, and enforced accountability to ensure we can minimize these types of impacts.
