🌞A Bright Start to Senior Year!🎓

The Alleghany High School Class of 2027 gathered outside the school this morning for the traditional Senior Sunrise Breakfast, officially marking the beginning of their senior year!

With lots of food, laughter, and school spirit, the seniors enjoyed a special morning together as they begin the final chapter of their high school journey. 💙🤍

We are looking forward to celebrating the Class of 2027 throughout the year! 🥳🎉

🇺🇸 History came to life at Covington Middle School!

Covington Middle School students recently celebrated VA250 and Alleghany Highlands 250 with the VA250 Mobile Museum, local history presentations, art projects, and more.

Students explored Virginia’s role in American history while connecting those lessons to the history of their own community.

A big thank-you to our community partners and everyone who helped make this celebration and learning event possible! ❤️💙

📚🌟 Kindergartners Are Off to a Great Start!🌟📚

It’s still early in the school year, but Alison McPherson’s kindergarten students at Mountain View Elementary are already showing us what they can do!

The students recently completed their UFLI Getting Ready Lessons and celebrated by receiving certificates for their hard work. 🎉🏆

UFLI stands for University of Florida Literacy Institute. It gives teachers a good way to help young children learn to read. The Getting Ready Lessons help students build early reading skills, including hearing sounds in words, learning letters and their sounds, and connecting sounds to print. 🔤📖

These kindergartners are already building a strong foundation for reading, and we’re excited to see all they will learn and accomplish this year! 👏🎓💙

📚 ☺️Learning is always better when you’re having fun!

At Callaghan Elementary, we found these 5th graders in Jaclyn Bray’s class having a great time learning about decimals! 🧮

We couldn’t help but notice the strong friendships among the students and, perhaps most of all, how much they clearly love and appreciate their teacher. ❤️

It’s terrific to see students learning, laughing, encouraging one another, and building relationships. All signs of a successful classroom!

Keep up the great work, Callaghan 5th graders! 🎉👏

🍎🥕 Healthy foods, happy learners!

Preschoolers across Alleghany Highlands Public Schools are exploring fruits, vegetables, and other healthy foods through Dr. Yum’s Preschool Food Adventure.

Students get to look, smell, touch, and taste new foods, all while learning about healthy choices in a fun, hands-on way!

We love seeing our youngest learners explore, ask questions, and build healthy habits. 💚

Here’s a little glimpse into a typical learning day in Michelle Via’s kindergarten classroom at Mountain View Elementary! 🍎📚

Each morning, Peyton Nicely, a senior at AHS, joins Mrs. Via’s class to help with the kindergarten students. Peyton is also a student at JRTC in the Intro to Early Childhood class, where she is gaining hands-on experience and discovering what it means to work with young children.

We are proud of Peyton for investing her time in our young students, and grateful to Mrs. Via for helping provide such a meaningful opportunity! 🌟

The late Dolly Parton was known for her kindness and generosity toward others. 🦋💛

At Sharon Elementary, first-grade teacher Hope Arthur is using Dolly’s life and example to teach her students about character and kindness. 📚🌟

It’s a meaningful way to introduce young students to the values Dolly lived by and how her life impacted so many people. 💕
