FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Lea County Sheriff's Office Investigating Fatal Motorcycle Crash

LEA COUNTY, N.M.— On Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at approximately 10:16 a.m., the Lea County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit was dispatched to the area of West Gum Street and Ashly Lane in reference to a motorcycle crash.

Deputies arrived on scene and located an adult male in the roadway on Gum Street. A burnt orange Harley-Davidson motorcycle with significant damage was located further west of the victim, off the north side of the roadway.

The driver of the Harley Davidson, identified as Chadwick Taylor, 49, of Lovington, New Mexico, sustained fatal injuries as a result of this crash. The Lea County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit responded and is conducting the crash investigation.

The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation. No additional information is available at this time.

🚨 SCAM ALERT–LEA COUNTY RESIDENTS 🚨

The Lea County Sheriff’s Office has received multiple reports of fraudulent property rental and sale scams targeting residents.

Scammers are posting fake advertisements on social media and real estate websites, claiming properties are available for rent or sale. They then communicate with interested buyers or renters and request payments through Cash App, Venmo, or other electronic payment methods to "secure" the property.

⚠️ Protect Yourself:

• Verify that the property is legitimate before sending any money.
• Confirm that the person advertising the property is authorized to rent or sell it.
• Be cautious of requests for upfront payments through electronic payment apps.
• Research the property and meet with verified property owners or licensed agents whenever possible.

Please remain vigilant and share this information with friends and family to help prevent others from becoming victims.

If you believe you have been targeted by a scam or encounter a suspicious property listing, contact the Lea County Sheriff’s Office immediately at 575-396-3611 to report the incident.
