Dear Families:
As you're aware, temperatures next week in our region have been forecast to be especially warm. Approximately half of the schools in Thompson School District are not fully air-conditioned, which can pose concerns for the safety and security of our students and staff who work in those buildings when temperatures remain consistently high. To help protect the health of our school communities, the district is evaluating the possibility of releasing students early on days when high temperatures could have an especially significant impact on the health of students and staff. Decisions regarding potential early release will be made the day beforehand.
What Will Happen If An Early Release Is Called?
If an early release is called for the following day, bus routes for students will run two hours earlier than their typical time and students will be released two hours earlier than their normal time as well. Schools will begin at their normally scheduled times each day, including Wednesday as a typical late start.
Breakfast and lunch will be served to students and activities and events will continue to run at their normal schedule. Students who participate in athletics, activities and after-school events will have the option to not attend on an early release day. Early Childhood afternoon sessions will be canceled if an early release occurs. If you are enrolled in an after-school care program with YMCA or Boys and Girls Club, your provider will be in touch with child-care availability.
We understand that these potential early closures may create a burden for some of our families who will need to adjust their schedules to accommodate the change. We appreciate your support as we continue to take reasonable steps as needed to help keep our students and school communities safe.
