Project Self-Sufficiency of Northern Colorado

Project Self-Sufficiency of Northern Colorado Bringing the power of education to single-parents.

For more than 30 years, the work of Project-Self Sufficiency has been dedicated to transforming the lives of single parents, their families and the communities where they live and work, through access to education and career development. Our promise as an organization is to cultivate the grit and determination necessary for a lifetime of achievements for single parents and their children. In other

words, we help them develop their own power, the selfpower, that is essential to push through barriers in order for them to live a completely different life.

Every single parent in our program demonstrates extraordinary SelfPower by showing up, especially when the journey gets tough. Their strength is matched by the caring community that stands alongside them: Program Advisors, fellow participants, friends who offer a helping hand so someone can reach the next milestone.

On National Best Friends Day, we celebrate everyone in Northern Colorado who helps build this cycle of success. When you walk beside our families, you spark hope and lasting change. Your impact goes further than you know.

An Ode to Our Anonymous Donors:

Oh, generous mystery.
Champion of second chances.
Quiet believer in families building stronger futures.

You gave without a name, without recognition, and without hesitation. And because of you, families are gaining stability, confidence, and a clearer path toward self-sufficiency.

Your gifts move us to tears, fill our hearts with gratitude, and leave us with no proper way to say thank you.

So we'll say it loudly here: your kindness is changing lives.

We may not know who you are. But we see the impact of your belief every single day. Thank you. 💙

🎓 Congratulations to one of our incredible college graduates, Hayley! 🎉
Hayley earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Naropa University last Spring—and her journey is one we’re so proud to celebrate. Like so many of the single parents we serve, her determination and resilience made this milestone possible. Moments like this are what drive our mission forward.

In Hayley’s own words:
“I feel so immensely grateful for the incredible support of Project Self Sufficiency. They helped me achieve a dream I didn’t think would ever be possible. The emotional and financial support helped me and my children through all the hurdles and challenges of being a single mother in school full time. I absolutely couldn’t have done it without PSS. My life and my children’s lives have been forever changed because of this amazing organization.”

Hayley, your journey inspires us—thank you for letting us walk alongside you.

As we celebrate graduates like Hayley, we’re reminded that this kind of transformation is only possible because of a community that shows up. If you feel inspired, we invite you to be part of what’s next—supporting the next parent working toward a life-changing degree. https://www.coloradogives.org/story/wbmowev

The child who watches their parent graduate, that's who we're working for too.

When a single parent walks across a stage, finishes a certification, or lands the job they've been building toward, the impact doesn't stop with them.

Their kids are watching. And what children witness becomes the blueprint for what they believe is possible.

This is the idea at the heart of Project Self-Sufficiency: investing in one person's SelfPower sets something in motion that echoes through generations. It's not a program outcome. It's a legacy.

For 40 years, that's exactly what this community has been building together.

June 30 is close. And so is a single parent's yes.

Right now, a single parent in Northern Colorado is waiting to find out if she can say yes to the next semester. Yes to the career she's been working toward. Yes to the future she's been imagining for her kids.

Your gift before June 30 helps us answer her.

Every dollar is still being matched 1:1, up to $40,000.

So your $40 becomes $80 toward two weeks of gas. Your $100 becomes $200 toward groceries or a utility bill. Your $250 becomes $500 of wraparound support that keeps her in school when life tries to pull her out.

We need $50,000 by June 30. There's no fallback, no other source. Just this community deciding that Northern Colorado families are worth showing up for. Forty years of proof says you will.

This community is the reason it works.

Project Self-Sufficiency doesn't run on programming alone. It runs on people: volunteers, mentors, donors, and partners who've decided that Northern Colorado families are worth showing up for.

Friends of Project Self-Sufficiency is a group of volunteers who make moments happen that don't necessarily show up in a budget line. The birthday cards that land on a hard day. The care packages that say "we see you." The golf days that let our participants' kids just be kids for an afternoon.

If you've ever wondered how to make your time feel meaningful, this is a place to start.

Self-sufficiency isn't a destination. It's an ongoing journey.

We don't hand people a finish line. We walk alongside them while they build one.

Through our SelfPower Model, single parents in Northern Colorado move through four stages of growth: Launch, Discover, Strengthen, and Actualize.

Each stage comes with dedicated Program Advisors, wraparound support, and a community that believes in them every step of the way.

The result? Families that are more stable, more confident, and better equipped to shape the future they've been working toward.

For 40 years, this is how change has happened here.
