Training to better serve our community!

Our department recently participated in LG&E’s annual natural gas safety training, following the journey of natural gas from its source through high-pressure transmission pipelines, into smaller distribution lines, and ultimately to the homes and businesses in our community.

The training covered pipeline sizes and infrastructure, how odorants such as mercaptan help make naturally odorless gas easier to detect, how to identify valves, which valves emergency responders may operate, and which equipment should be left to utility professionals. Crews also reviewed what to do, and what not to do when arriving at a natural gas emergency.

Through classroom instruction and hands-on outdoor scenarios, our personnel are strengthening the knowledge, coordination, and decision-making skills needed to respond safely and effectively. We are committed to ongoing training so we can remain prepared and provide the best possible service to our community.

Firefighters battled a house fire on Apple Orchard Place in Oldham County; no injuries were reported.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE!

Last night at 6:15, Anchorage Middletown Fire & EMS crews responded to a residential structure fire in the 9600 block of Fallen Leaf Court in Oldham County.

Crews from Anchorage Middletown Fire & EMS along with South Oldham Fire Department and Pewee Valley Fire Department responded to a fire coming from the rear of the house. It took 32 firefighters 27 minutes to control the fire.

There were no injuries reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Anchorage Middletown, Fire & EMS Community Risk Reduction Division managed a booth at the Kentucky State Fair South Wing from 9am to close, Saturday and Sunday.

The booth offered safety focused literature, coloring sheets and stickers as well as a few other trinkets. Life size cut outs of a firefighter and EMS person were a big hits with the kids. Parents would take the children’s picture as they put their face through a hole of the cut out’s facial area.

Each Jefferson County Fire Department staffed the both a couple of days during the Fair. The area also had booths representing The Kentucky Fire Commission, Kentucky Firefighters Association, Louisville Metro Emergency Services, and local, county, and state, law-enforcement agencies.

Helping to improve EMS practices!

Yesterday, Captain Raban Hennequant spoke at the Kentucky Rural Heath Links Conference(Leadership IN Kentucky) held at the Legacy Event
Center located at the Logstill Distillery.

About 100 EMS leaders and providers from across Kentucky attended. Topics covered included Problems facing EMS, leadership lessons from the street by Nationally renown Rob Lawrence and State Legislation issues for EMS.

Public safety is a team effort. This week, during a multi-agency mass casualty incident exercise hosted by UofL Health, EMS, law enforcement, federal partners, emergency management, public health, and local hospital systems worked side by side to respond to a challenging scenario at a large community event.

The scenario required teams to identify what was causing hundreds of attendees to become ill, treat and transport 1,300 patients, manage critical resources, and coordinate a unified response across agencies.

Exercises like this strengthen communication, test plans, identify gaps, and build the trusted partnerships we depend on during real emergencies. No single agency can manage an incident of this scale alone, but by training together, we are better prepared to respond together and protect our community.

Our work continues. Participating agencies will reconvene in about 30 days to review lessons learned and turn them into practical improvements for future responses.

Multi-department response to residential structure fire
One firefighter transported due to heat-related symptoms

Louisville, KY. (August 15, 2026) – This afternoon at 12:46, units from Anchorage Middletown Fire & EMS, St. Matthews Fire Department and Jeffersontown Fire & EMS responded to a residential structure fire in the 10500 block of Lawrencekirk Court in Douglass Hills. First-arriving units found heavy fire and smoke showing from the attached garage of a one-story brick, single-family dwelling.

Crews made entry, conducted an interior fire attack, and worked to extinguish the flames, containing the fire to the garage, where it started.
Two adult occupants were home at the time of the fire and were out of the structure when crews arrived.
The garage sustained extensive damage, but firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to the rest of the home, which did sustain smoke damage. Thirty-five firefighters and EMS personnel brought the fire under control within 26 minutes. The cause is under investigation.

One firefighter was transported to the hospital as a precaution after experiencing heat-related symptoms. No other injuries were reported.
