From inquiry to impact.

Today we celebrate Shalonda Curry on becoming a newly licensed foster parent through Safe Haven Family Resource Center and already opening her heart and home to a placement.

The foster care journey is not always easy, but Shalonda said “yes” to the process, the trainings, the growth, and most importantly… to a child in need. Her story is proof that ordinary people can make an extraordinary difference.

Thank you, Shalonda, for choosing love, stability, and support for a child during one of the most important moments of their life. We are proud to walk alongside you on this journey.

Interested in learning more about becoming a foster parent? We have an info session on June 18th!

Today is International Day of Families, and there’s still time to learn how you can help change a child’s life through foster care.

Reminder! Safe Haven’s Foster Parent Information Session is TODAY at 5:00 PM via Zoom. Families come in many forms, and sometimes the greatest act of love is opening your heart and home to a child in need.

There’s something special about highlighting the women who help nurture, heal, and strengthen families, especially right after Mother’s Day.

This week’s feature shines a light on someone helping families grow stronger every day through compassion, care, and clinical support.

---------------------------------------------------

MEET | JaTeziah Lively, LPCA, Therapist at Safe Haven Family Resource Center.

JaTeziah provides holistic mental health support to individuals and families of all ages, with a special focus on strengthening family systems. Through her work, she helps families navigate emotional and behavioral health challenges while improving communication, connection, and resilience.

She is deeply passionate about keeping families united and thriving. Her work includes supporting healthy reunifications, promoting stable home environments, and leading parenting groups that encourage families to look beyond the basics and fully support their child’s academic, physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing.

JaTeziah is also interested in the connection between mental health and the legal system, believing that integrating clinical insight into family law can lead to more compassionate and informed outcomes for families.

Before becoming a therapist, JaTeziah worked as a teacher and school counselor, giving her a unique perspective on how child development, emotional wellness, and academic success are all connected. This experience allows her to provide practical, well rounded support for the families she serves.

Outside of her professional work, JaTeziah enjoys writing poetry and is currently working toward publishing her own collection. And fun fact, she’s ambidextrous!

We’re grateful for leaders like JaTeziah who continue helping families heal, grow, and thrive every day.

There’s something powerful about people who come back to change the very systems that shaped them.

This week’s feature is one of those stories.

MEET | Damareus Jackson-Martin

This week we’re highlighting Damareus, Advisory Board Member for the child placing program at Safe Haven Family Resource Center.

Damareus serves as a family and youth advocate and is currently pursuing his degree in Social Work at University of Louisville. His work is rooted in a deep passion for teaching and empowering others to become the best version of themselves.

What makes his voice especially powerful is his lived experience. As someone who was once a youth in the system, Damareus brings a perspective that helps shape how we serve, support, and advocate for young people and families. He uses that lens to pour back into the work and strengthen the impact of the organization.

Outside of his advocacy, Damareus spent part of his teenage years living in Florida, adding to the experiences that continue to shape who he is today.

We’re grateful for leaders like Damareus who bring both passion and perspective to the work.

With so many more features on the way, be sure to turn on your post notifications so you don’t miss a beat. This week, we’ll also be sharing how you can get connected to our Foster parent training program and more!

As many families enjoy spring break this week, it is important to remember that not every child experiences stability during school breaks.

Organizations like Safe Haven work year-round to provide safe, supportive environments for children in need.

If you have considered fostering, this season is a reminder of how critical that role truly is.

🩷🩵🩷 Happy Easter 🩵🩷🩵

This Easter, we’re reminded that hope always has the final word.

At Safe Haven Family Resource Center, that hope looks like families being restored, children finding safety, and communities coming together to care.

There is room for you in this work.
