As we head into September, ask yourself:

Could I make room for a child?

Could I:

❤️ Open my heart?
📚 Learn about trauma?
🤝 Support a child and their family?
🧡 Be a consistent adult during a time of uncertainty?

You don’t have to have everything figured out before you start.

✅ FACT: Foster parents come from many different backgrounds and family structures.

You may be single, married, partnered, or part of another family structure. What matters is your ability and willingness to provide a safe, stable, supportive home for a child.

Every child deserves someone in their corner.

TRAUMA-INFORMED TUESDAY 💙

Sometimes a child’s behavior is communicating something they don’t have the words to say.

Instead of only asking:

“How do I stop this behavior?”

Try asking:

“What might this child be communicating through this behavior?”

A child may be overwhelmed, scared, frustrated, tired, confused, or unsure how to express what they’re feeling.

That doesn’t mean every behavior is acceptable—but understanding the why behind the behavior can help adults respond with greater connection and compassion.

Connection before correction. 💙

Children in foster care don’t need perfect foster parents.

They need adults who are willing to:

❤️ Listen
❤️ Learn
❤️ Advocate
❤️ Be patient
❤️ Set healthy boundaries
❤️ Provide consistency
❤️ Ask for help
❤️ Keep showing up

Foster parenting is a journey. You don’t have to know everything on day one.

You just have to be willing to take the first step. 💚

Sometimes, you just have to change what today feels like.

A calm morning.
A home-cooked meal.
Help with homework.
A bedtime story.
Someone cheering from the sidelines.
Someone who remembers their favorite snack.
Someone who says, “I’m glad you’re here.”

Those seemingly small moments can mean so much to a child in foster care. 💙
