The Michael Jackson movie just hit digital. But the Baaaad-est MJ cover of 2026? That’s by goats.

The herd hit their cues, bleating right on beat and chomping through the chorus while their human crew showed up dressed to impress with choreography to match. One goat even moonwalks (we’ll never reveal how).

But these four-legged stars do more than entertain. Over the past week, they’ve been munching Dalmatian toadflax, diffuse knapweed, and other invasive weeds across Louisville Open Space.

It’s all part of our targeted grazing program, where goats help reduce invasive species that can outcompete native plants and impact wildlife habitat.

As they take their final bow on the mesa, we’re crowning this talented herd the Kings and Queens of Chomp. Rumor has it they’re already in the studio recording their next hit: “Bleat It.”

Sound on.

Meet Bebo, and this is her herd.

Bebo is a working herding dog helping guide goats across Davidson Mesa Open Space as part of our grazing program. What looks like chaos is actually careful coordination between a dog, her handler, and her herd.

Approximately 200 goats are grazing Davidson Mesa through June 12, though dates are subject to change as the goats are efficient grazers. Behind every smooth goat grazing operation is a very good dog.

P.S. Because Bebo is on duty, she may be off leash while working; however, all other pets must remain on leash at all times. Failure to comply may result in a fine of up to $2,650, per Louisville Municipal Code, Section 1.28.010.

The W**d Whackers are a volunteer group dedicated to protecting Louisville's open spaces by removing invasive and noxious weeds that threaten native plants and wildlife. When left unchecked, these weeds can take over natural areas and permanently change the landscape we all love. By joining a W**d Whackers event, you're helping preserve our open spaces for generations to come.

Join us at Davidson Mesa Open Space on Saturday, June 13, from 10 a.m. to noon for a meaningful morning of hands-on conservation. No registration or experience is necessary. Just bring water, gloves, and a shovel if you have one. We'll meet at the property entrance off Century Drive near the GHX building.

Why did the turtle cross the road? To score a VIP ride to the golf course.

This female snapping turtle was found on a median along Dillon Road earlier today. Open Space staff safely relocated her to Coal Creek Golf Course, where she’s now back in bounds and out of the rough.

Colorado Free Fishing Weekend is June 6-7, which means you can cast a line without a fishing license!

In Louisville, fishing is allowed at:
• Harper Lake
• Lake Park
• Warembourg Fishing Pond
Fishing anywhere else in Louisville is strictly prohibited.

Before you bait your hook, keep these rules in mind:
• Swimming and wading are prohibited
• Dogs are not allowed in the water
• Motorized RC boats are prohibited on all city waterways
• Boating at Harper Lake requires a boating permit displayed on your watercraft
• Bow fishing is prohibited
• Parks are open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Help keep our lakes and ponds clean by picking up discarded fishing line and recycling it in the proper receptacles. Now grab your tackle box, practice your best “Here, Fishy, Fishy”, and enjoy a weekend by the water.

P.S. Free Fishing Weekend is just the start. A new app-based adventure is launching soon in Louisville Open Space, and you'll be able to try it out next weekend. Stay tuned for details.

Patrons braved the wind last night to join us for a Noxious W**d ID Training at Aquarius Open Space. Participants learned how to identify common noxious weeds, how Open Space staff manages them across Louisville, and ways they can help control weeds in their own yards.

Noxious weeds are invasive, non-native plants that threaten Colorado’s natural landscapes and agricultural areas. They can cause ecological, economical, or agricultural harm by outcompeting native vegetation, reducing wildlife habitat and crop yields, and/or may increase wildfire risk.

Colorado classifies noxious weeds into three lists based on how widespread they are and how aggressively they must be managed. List A species are targeted for eradication, List B species are managed to prevent further spread, and List C species are already widespread and are managed through ongoing control and education. Open Space works to control noxious weeds through an Integrated Management Plan to help protect valuable natural resources. Learn more about how we manage noxious weeds in Open Space at https://bit.ly/4tVTxY1

Thank you to everyone who came out ready to learn and help protect our local landscapes and open spaces.
