One of the many things that makes E.P. “Tom” Sawyer unique among Kentucky State Parks is the number of user groups that operate on our grounds. These are not state-run programs, but rather agreements that allow various organizations to operate facilities and programs within the park.

This week’s spotlight is on Louisville Sports Commission
Occupying space at the Root Cellar for more than two decades, the Sports Commission has been an enormous partner when it comes to cross country meets, which are among the largest events on our calendar each year. Running (pun intended) the Swags Louisville Cross Country Classic on October 2-3, the Sports Commission also supports many other races from the elementary school to collegiate levels. Groups interested in hosting events in the park can also call upon LSC for route recommendations for 5Ks, fun runs and charity walks.

Traffic Advisory: Speaking of cross country, please note that access to the park may be limited for the Trinity/Valkyrie meet on Saturday, September 19.

Fall Beginner Archery Lessons start October 5. Four 1-hour lessons throughout the month. Three youth sessions and one for families/adults.

One of the many things that makes E.P. “Tom” Sawyer unique across the landscape of Kentucky State Parks is the high number of user groups that operate on our grounds. These are not state-run programs, but agreements to operate various facilities. Starting this month, we’d like to do weekly “spotlights” on our various partners and increase awareness of all this park has to offer!

Now that it’s September, the obvious first choice is Derby City BMX since their Nationals Event is this weekend, 9/4-9/6! Riders all the way up to the Olympic level will be onsite. Last year’s event had 43 states and 12 countries represented. Check out the track in the middle of the park at 3000 Tom Sawyer Drive.
