What if an alley could become a gathering place?

That's the vision behind a new neighborhood revitalization effort taking shape in Shawnee.

Through Bloomberg Philanthropies' Love Your Block initiative, the Office of Violence Prevention and multiple Louisville Metro partners are using a $100,000 grant to transform underutilized alleys into vibrant community spaces that promote connection, safety and opportunity.

Plans include:
🎨 Public art installations
🛍️ Alley Markets featuring local vendors
🌳 Improvements that foster neighborhood pride and environmental justice

By reimagining these shared spaces, we're helping create places where neighbors can connect, small businesses can thrive and communities can flourish.

This is more than beautification—it's about investing in people, strengthening neighborhoods and building a safer Louisville together.

Meet the Team: Emily Adkins

Helping connect people to the right resources is at the heart of Emily Adkins' work.

As the SAMHSA Program Manager for Louisville Metro's Office of Violence Prevention, Emily partners with community organizations, youth and families to improve access to services and strengthen violence prevention efforts across Louisville.

A University of Louisville graduate, Emily is both a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), bringing clinical expertise and a deep commitment to helping individuals and families thrive.

“My favorite thing about working at OVP is seeing people with all sorts of different backgrounds and life experiences come together to support our city,” Emily said.

When she's not working with community partners, you'll likely find her spending time with her dog, tending to her tomato plants, enjoying game nights or serving through her church.

Thank you, Emily, for helping build a safer, healthier Louisville—one connection at a time.
