Join us Thursday, September 3 at 9:00 AM for a powerful conversation with Director Verná Cherry Goatley, Director of the Louisville Metro Human Relations Commission (HRC), as we explore “Championing Equity and Civil Rights: The Role, Purpose, and State of Affairs of the Louisville Metro Human Relations Commission.”

Director Goatley will discuss the HRC’s mission and history, its role in bridging ethnic, racial, and cultural divisions, and its work enforcing civil rights laws through education, advocacy, and community outreach. The conversation will also explore discrimination complaints involving housing, public accommodations, and employment; economic equity and contract compliance; certification opportunities for Minority-, Women-, Disabled-, Veteran-, and LGBTQ+-owned businesses; Second Chance Business Certification; Good Faith Effort standards; equitable participation in Metro capital projects; and fair housing, particularly in West Louisville and the Urban Core. We’ll also discuss equity and language access for immigrant, refugee, and multilingual communities, the current state of civil rights in Louisville, community accountability, and how residents can Know Their Rights and access HRC resources and services.
