“Employees with young children are juggling many priorities and working hard to ensure everyone gets what they need, both at work and at home.” — Kate Dean, Child Care Aware of Kentucky

When employers talk about workforce challenges, conversations often focus on recruitment, retention, and absenteeism. Increasingly, another factor is impossible to ignore: access to affordable, reliable child care. Read more: kentuckianaworks.org/news/2026/childcare-workforce-solutions

"I learned that grant writing isn't just about asking for money; it’s about understanding the big purpose and mission behind a non-profit." — Aaren Gasaway, After the Tassel Intern

If you think high school internships are limited to filing and coffee runs, think again. The After the Tassel interns at Thumbprint recently wrapped up projects that would challenge seasoned professionals:

🔍 Strategic Research: Students mastered the Instrumentl system to identify and vet grant opportunities for non-profit and healthcare clients.

🤖 Tech Innovation: Interns performed UX and QA testing for a newly launched AI writing product, Grant Partner, helping developers get the product across the finish line.

📱 Marketing & Strategy: The team completed a full year of social media content calendars for two major clients—LeadingAge Kentucky and Line Nine—in just four weeks.

📊 Financial Operations: Students built forecasting models and budget-versus-actual reports for a multi-million dollar organization to provide better visibility for the entire company.

These students demonstrated that they are not just "the future"—they are productive contributors today. They are leaving this program with a resume that proves they can handle the "weeds" of industry-standard systems.

"We are here to give these students real-life experience... so that when they leave us, they can prosper—whether they stay here at Thumbprint or move elsewhere." — Ashby Eggers, Director of Healthcare Solutions at Thumbprint

The transition from high school to the professional world is one of the most critical leaps a young person can make. Through KentuckianaWorks and the After the Tassel program, we are seeing exactly how that bridge should be built.

Thumbprint recently hosted a celebration to recognize the incredible work of these interns. With a structure of 15 hours, for 15 weeks at $15 an hour, these students were given a serious platform to prove their value.

📍 44 JCPS high school seniors were placed in diverse fields, from the offices of Thumbprint to healthcare facilities like Signature Healthcare and Nazareth.
📍 This initiative is proving that our local students are ready for the challenge and directly contributing to the economic development of our city and state.
📍 By providing hands-on learning and professional experience, we are shaping the next generation of leaders and innovators.
When we align student potential with real-world opportunity, the entire region wins.
