LMDC Detectives make arrest following contraband investigation
LOUISVILLE, KY – Detectives with the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections (LMDC) Professional Standards Unit, working in partnership with the United States Postal Inspection Service, have arrested a Louisville woman following an investigation into an alleged attempt to introduce narcotics into the correctional facility through the mail.
The investigation began after a suspicious envelope containing suspected narcotics was intercepted before it could reach an incarcerated individual housed at LMDC. Detectives subsequently launched an investigation to determine the source of the package and identify those involved.
Through investigative efforts, detectives determined that suspected narcotics had been concealed within mailed correspondence in an attempt to introduce the substances into the facility. Investigators were able to identify the individuals allegedly involved and their actions related to the attempted introduction of contraband.
As a result of the investigation, Kimberly Stayton, 43, of Louisville, was arrested by LMDC detectives in connection with the mailing of suspected narcotics intended for Jesse Galloway, 40, of Louisville, who is currently incarcerated at LMDC.
Stayton was booked into Metro Corrections and charged with:
• Promoting Contraband in the First Degree
• Trafficking in a Controlled Substance in the Second Degree
• Forgery in the First Degree
Galloway is expected to face additional charges, including Complicity to Trafficking in a Controlled Substance and Complicity to Promoting Contraband.
"This investigation demonstrates the ongoing commitment of LMDC investigators and our federal law enforcement partners to prevent illegal contraband from entering our facility and to hold accountable those who attempt to compromise the safety and security of our institution," said LMDC officials.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
