This past Sunday (05/03/2026) our agency received a call to investigate two suspicious bald headed white men at New Fleming Baptist Church on Friendship Church Road. A Deputy responded and talked with the men when they exited the church. They were very nice and each had a Bible in their hands. They own property here and were visiting and had been here for over a week. The previous Sunday they attended Friendship Baptist Church and told the Deputy that they were not used to attending a church that large and were looking to attend a small country church while they were here.
The men went on to say that they contributed $100 at each service and that they did not intend to cause any harm by visiting.
It has been posted on social media that our Deputy searched their vehicle and recovered two rifles on the front seat. This is NOT TRUE. Our Deputy did not search the vehicle and did not see two rifles on the front seat! These men were visitors looking for a place to worship on the Lord's Day. That is all.
Now, because of some social media posts, we are getting calls asking if churches need to be cancelling services on Mother's Day.

Our agency has been made aware that there are individuals going door to door attempting to sell life insurance. The sales people are saying that they are working with Jefferson County on this project. That is a lie! No one has obtained a license from the Jefferson County Commissioners Office to sell insurance door to door. If these people come to your home, try to get their tag number, description, and call 911. Do not give them your personal information.
