If any of you have attended a Louisa Planning Commission or Town Council or Board of Supervisors meeting, you will notice someone always says, "it meets minimum standards", before they vote for approval. If enough people complain against something, the vote is typically delayed to a later time where the majority of the time, the agenda item is finally approved anyway.
If you do not believe me, just watch the recorded videos of these meetings.
Louisa County and the Town of Louisa are one of the only communities in our State of Virginia that utilizes minimum standards that were developed decades ago. The majority of communities and counties have increased their standards above the minimum for any development proposed for their locale.
Louisa County is the ONLY county in the State of Virginia to not participate in the FEMA Federal Flood Protection Program. This eliminates FEMA assistance for flood induced damage and our home insurance or business insurance will not cover flooding, if located in a floodplain. Private flood insurance to fully cover the damages to your home or business is very expensive and a one-time use policy.
We need to implement floodplain management to reduce the flooding that is currently happening in our County and Town. The lack of a floodplain management plan is the basis for FEMA removing us from the Federal Flood Protection Program besides our local and county governments voting to leave FEMA's Flood Protection Program.
I have lived here for 4 decades and have watched the destruction of private property and have experienced this destruction. We have had no recourse to correct these issues. Every district in Louisa County except for Cuckoo has sent me pictures or videos of the flooding they are having to live with. Why is this acceptable?
This is why I am currently running for a seat on the Louisa Town Council. We must rejoin the FEMA Federal Flood Protection program to protect our neighbor's homes and businesses. FEMA issued a report to our government officials in early 2022 stating the Town of Louisa is expected to experience $720,000,000 in losses due to a flood event. Did anyone report on that to our residents?
Please help protect Louisa and vote for change on November 8th!
