Happy Pride Month from JFS Silicon Valley! 🌈

We are proud to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community this month and every month. At JFS, we are committed to fostering belonging, connection, and dignity for all.

For LGBTQIA+ adults seeking connection and community, we offer an LGBTQIA+ Support Group, a welcoming and affirming space to share experiences, build meaningful relationships, and connect with others. We invite you to join us!

On Holocaust Survivor Day, observed on June 4, we join communities across the United States in honoring and celebrating Holocaust Survivors. This worldwide initiative is rooted in gratitude for the gift of our Survivors' legacies and in recognition of their lives, families, and countless contributions to our communities.

The June 4 observance reflects a shared commitment to ensuring that Holocaust remembrance remains deeply connected to living testimony, especially at a time when firsthand voices matter more than ever.

In 2019, Seed the Dream Foundation partnered with KAVOD to establish the KAVOD Survivors of the Holocaust Emergency Fund (SHEF) to address the unmet emergency needs of Holocaust Survivors. At that time, it was estimated that one-third of the approximately 100,000 Holocaust Survivors living in the United States were experiencing poverty.

This year, Holocaust Survivor Day events are taking place in 32 KAVOD SHEF communities across the country, bringing together Survivors, families, caregivers, and community members in solidarity and celebration. Jewish Family Services (JFS) of Silicon Valley is proud to be a KAVOD SHEF affiliate serving ~350 Survivors annually.

JFS Silicon Valley is honored to celebrate the Holocaust Survivor clients we serve every day with a special event that blends music, food, and ceremony into a powerful testament to human resilience, strength, and hope.

We extend our sincere thanks to Seed the Dream Foundation for sponsoring this important event and to Jewish Silicon Valley for partnering with us by providing the space for this meaningful gathering.

Today and every day, we honor our Survivors, cherish their stories, and recommit ourselves to ensuring their legacy endures for generations to come.

Our recent Jewish Women’s Support Group centered around the spirit of Shavuot, a holiday celebrating renewal, abundance, and receiving wisdom. Participants created nature mandalas as a mindfulness practice, placing flowers, leaves, and natural objects with intention.

As we shared hopes for what we wanted to invite into ourselves, the group also held space for vulnerability, reflection, and processing heavy emotions. Community healing often begins with simply gathering and being present with one another.

We were honored to participate in Jewish California’s Capitol Summit. Alongside 700 community members from across the state, we met with legislators to advocate for six important bills affecting both the Jewish and broader communities, because building a stronger, more respectful future takes partnership and action. Grateful for the opportunity to help elevate issues that support stronger, safer, and more inclusive communities for all!

We’re still reflecting on the meaningful afternoon we shared at Good Day JFS!

We were honored to welcome 500 guests, community leaders, and supporters who came together in support of JFS Silicon Valley and the people we serve.

Thank you to everyone who showed up, stood with us, and helped make our biggest annual fundraiser such a special and inspiring event. We are deeply grateful to be part of a community that continues to show up for one another.

Many people think volunteering takes more time, experience, or expertise than they have. The reality is often much simpler — and more rewarding. At JFS, volunteer experience is shaped by shared stories and new friendships. Right now, more older adults in our community are hoping for connection, and the need for volunteers continues to grow.

If you're curious but not sure whether it's the right fit, we're hosting two 30-minute Q&A sessions where you can hear directly from current volunteers, ask questions, and get a real sense of what it involves. We hope you'll join us!

April is Volunteer Appreciation Month — and we couldn't let it pass without taking a moment to recognize the incredible people who show up for JFS, week after week.
From packing food bags and delivering meals, to spending time with an isolated neighbor, to helping a family find their footing — our volunteers are the heartbeat of this work. None of what we do would be possible without you.
To every single person who has given their time, their energy, and their care: thank you. You make this community what it is.
Thinking about volunteering? There is always a place for you here.
