A celebration we’ll always remember 💜

We are unbelievably grateful to have witnessed the students laugh as they ducked underneath the rainbow parachute and rolled around the real grass underneath 🌈🌱

☀️🌳Even as the heat sweltered, guests found respite under the shade of newly planted trees. As different speakers came to the podium to share, butterflies flitted around in the background—happy to visit one of the many California native plants growing around campus🦋

Esperanza Elementary School’s transformation shows us change is possible when we imagine and build together 🌀💙 Thank you to every partner, supporter, funder, community partner, student, and neighbor that contributed to this collective effort. Let’s keep the momentum. Every student deserves grass to run on, shade to rest under, and access to the worlds of wonder that nature provides us🌱

Come to the FREE Promoting Action for Climate Transformation community event on Saturday, September 12th, from 1-4 pm for free food, music, crafts, games, and to share your ideas for making your community more sustainable, healthy, and affordable. Promoting Action for Climate Transformation (PACT) for Paramount is a project led by 7 organizations: GRID Alternatives, Conservation Corps of Long Beach, Environmental Science Associates, The Energy Coalition, Healthy Active Streets, LA Neighborhood Land Trust, and TreePeople.

⭐️The Esperanza Elementary Green Schoolyard Project is HERE!🌳

IN 2020, LANLT partnered with Los Angeles Unified and community orgs to imagine a different kind of campus. Together, we transformed a school covered in pavement into an immersive, nature-focused campus, where students observe wildlife, play on grass, and stay cool in the shade of California native trees 🦋🦉🐛🐝

A moment of gratitude for Esperanza’s Principal, Brad Rumble, who recognized that students deserved better than an asphalt playground when he began his role in 2014. For years, Principal Rumble has been collaborating with Los Angeles Unified to implement small-scale greening projects, and this comprehensive renovation was possible because of his vision and support.

🌟Golden Age Community Garden has entered its Golden Era🌟

Months ago, we made the decision to pause gardening operations due to pest issues. Stepping away was difficult, but our first concern is our community’s health and safety. This time also allowed for us to think about what the space needs going forward. With support from land_recycling, U.S. Bank, and Councilmember Eunisses Hernandez we were able to:

🪏Remove the old soil and disassemble the six worn-down wooden garden beds.

🌱Build new aluminum raised beds with rodent protection and fill up the beds with soil and amendment.

🩵Host a very special reopening and a welcome back to all of the gardeners who grow in this space.

This transformation would not have been possible without our incredible volunteers (pictured on side 2)! We are also grateful to Keren’s504 fresh Fruits for providing us with delicious fruit and our partners KYCC, L.A. County Mental Health, and Los Angeles CCNP for the community resources and partnership ✏️🥭

In dense urban landscapes like Koreatown and Westlake, green spaces are essential, not a luxury. Connecting with nature and neighbors supports our mental health, brings us joy, and reminds us that we are part of something larger🌀
