LA Made Presents: Chinese Dessert Dumpling Demo + Tasting
Monday, May 11 @ 4pm
Join Chef Jess Wang for a communal Chinese dessert tradition: preparing hand-rolled sticky rice dumplings! Learn about the symbolic significance of these delicious dumplings, and see how fruity and veggie QQ pearl dumplings are made! The cooking demo will include a hands-on activity and will be followed by a tasting. This is a gluten-free and vegan-friendly event.

Tejiendo Recuerdos/Weaving Memories: Community Altar & Arts Workshop

Enjoy an afternoon full of art, community, and memory: Bring your favorite photos to be scanned and receive a free copy—add one to the altar and take another home for your own ofrenda, Paint your own alebrije with guest artist Ana Reyes. Share memories with Biblioteca de Maíz and Postal Service for the Dead. Take a family portrait with photographer Zuly García Díaz. Savor delicious Guatemalan food prepared by local Maya-K’iche’ chef Maricela Renoj from Maya Vision. Experience a traditional Mayan dance presented by Casa de la Cultura Maya, and listen to the sounds of the Maqueos Music Academy.

Disfruta una tarde llena de arte, comunidad y memoria: Trae tus fotos favoritas para escanearlas y recibir una copia gratis: agrega una al altar y lleva otra a casa para tu propia ofrenda. Poetry With Yesika Salgado – A Workshop, Saturday October 18, 12 noon - 3pm. Join the ALOUD community at our library branch for a bilingual poetry workshop led by beloved Los Angeles-born Salvadoran poet and bestselling author Yesika Salgado. All skill levels are welcome as Salgado guides students through a writing journey about their experiences living in L.A. Completed poems will be shared at a culminating showcase at Central Library, celebrating the many vibrant and diverse voices of our city.
