At Scholarship Prep South Bay, Scholars don’t just learn about STEM… they build it, test it, and perfect it. 🔬🧪

Every Friday is dedicated to hands-on STEM work: asking big questions, designing creative solutions, and experimenting with ideas that don’t always work the first time (or the second!). 🚀🪐

Last week’s STEM Open House gave families a window into that process. Scholars led demonstrations, explained their prototypes, and walked parents through their engineering thinking with the kind of confidence that comes from actually doing the work. They weren’t just presenting; they were teaching! 🛠️🤖

At Scholarship Prep South Bay, Black History Month isn't a moment. It's a movement.

This February, our TK-8 Scholars delivered a full BET Awards-style production celebrating Black culture, music, and artistic expression the way it deserves. Ms. Mo and Dr. Rickman's dance teams and ensembles brought the house down, and families previewed an art gallery of Scholar work before walking into a live show that had the whole room on their feet.

Our Scholars put in the work. The community showed up.

R&B legend Jon B and recording artist Kerry Mondy surprised everyone with performances that inspired our students.

Sylvia Parks, a beloved member of the Scholarship Prep community, was honored posthumously with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Her daughter, Principal Vann, was named Woman and Principal of the Year. Two generations of leadership with a far-reaching legacy.

And WNBA Los Angeles Sparks representative Chris Rogers also presented custom jerseys marking our new community partnership.

Families filled our Wilmington campus to celebrate students at the semiannual Semester Awards. With names called and cheers LOUD, our Scholars walked the blue carpet knowing their work counts and that what they do today is building toward what comes next.

Winter Break is here, and Scholarship Prep South Bay wrapped up the first semester with a finale worthy of a standing ovation.

From the high-energy Dolphin Dance Team performance to the TK-8 class performances, Scholars across every grade level took the stage to share a semester of learning through movement and music. Guided by classroom teachers and coached by Dr. Rickman and Ms. Monique Ellison, the night reflected weeks of practice, growth, and teamwork.

Today, on National Native American Heritage Day, we’re celebrating the traditions and stories of Native American communities with a behind-the-scenes look at our South Bay art elective.

This November, Instructor Ms. Ruiz shared her Navajo heritage with Scholars through a special art unit. From dreamcatchers to vibrant artwork inspired by John Nieto, our students explored culture, history, and creativity in every project.

Ms. Ruiz hopes Scholars will remember the voices and stories of Native American communities, and carry them forward.

We’re thankful this unit allowed our Scholars to grow in their artistic skills while honoring the history, spirit, and contributions of Native American communities everywhere.

It's officially Collegiate Awards SZN at Scholarship Prep South Bay! Our students and families arrived dressed to impress, ready for a night of recognition, “dolphin blue” carpet moments, and a dessert-first banquet that kicked things off perfectly.

From English Language Arts and Math growth to mastery on last Spring’s CAASPP test, each award told a story of focus, persistence, and real progress. And when Scholars stepped on stage to receive their medals, the smiles in the room said it all.

The celebration highlighted four levels of achievement:
🥇 Doctorate: Exceeded the standard in both ELA and Math
🥈 Master’s: Exceeded the standard in ELA or Math
🥉 Bachelor’s: Met the standard in ELA or Math
🏅Associate’s: Demonstrated growth in ELA or Math

At Scholarship Prep, celebrating both achievement AND growth matters because it reminds students that every step forward counts. Our Scholars’ hard work deserves a moment like this!

What happens when history, culture, and art come together? Scholarship Prep South Bay’s annual Hispanic Heritage Month celebration!

TK-8th grade students took the stage to portray iconic figures like Diego Rivera, Dolores Huerta, Cesar Chavez, Selena, Pablo Picasso, and Frida Kahlo, showing how Hispanic changemakers have shaped our world. Families and staff spent the morning cheering on student performances and admiring the art gallery.

We’re grateful to all of our staff, dance coaches, and volunteers for their behind-the-scenes efforts, which not only kept the event running smoothly but also created a memorable, hands-on learning experience for our students.

Our recent Back to School Night at SP South Bay put families in the middle of the action. 🐬 Scholars guided loved ones through the halls and classrooms, showed off some of their work (so far), and gave families a clear picture of what a day at school looks like.

It was an early evening of conversation, connection, and a glimpse into the routines that set our Scholars up to excel. Thanks to everyone who joined us and for your partnership in your student’s academic journey! We look forward to picking up the conversation at Family-Teacher Conferences on October 9th & 10th. 💙🩵
