Today we remember Policeman Raymond E.
Hicks, End of Watch on this day, 50 years ago.

On August 17, 1976, five officers from Venice Division (now known as Pacific Division) served a search warrant for narcotics at a home on the 900 block of Hyde Park Boulevard in the city of Inglewood. As the officers tried to force their way inside, one man opened fire at them with a .357 magnum revolver. Officer Raymond Hicks was struck by one round in the chest. Other officers returned fire and wounded one suspect then arrested four men and two women. They also seized 167 grams of P*P and 120 grams of ma*****na.

Officer Hicks, 35, a 12-year LAPD veteran, was taken to Daniel Freeman Memorial Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The Los Angeles Police Department thanks you for your service and ultimate sacrifice in the service to the community.

Here’s how you can protect your vehicle:
1. Park smart - Garages, gated lots, and well-lit areas
2. Add a shield/cage - Theft deterrent devices made for your vehicle
3. Mark it - Etch your VIN and use high-temp paint
4. Park busy - High traffic areas vs isolated corners
5. Use alarms - Motion/tilt sensors help
6. Report it - See suspicious activity? Call 911 and note details safely
