It’s with deep reverence and love that we share news of the transition of our beloved mentor, guide, cherished friend, the brilliant poet Peter J Harris. As many know, this is not an ending but a return home that connects our earthly community to the wisdom of our ancestors. But we also know that this is a time of deep mourning.

Peter was such a guiding light for so many of us, whose wisdom, generosity, and unwavering belief in the power of happiness transformed not just our paths, but the very foundation of our creativity — where that creativity is born. Yes, that literal Inspiration House (iykyk). Hhis voice music, his poetry, showed us the weaving, the fabric of humanness, heart, and spirit in service of something greater than ourselves, and it also showed us ourselves.

Peter also gifted us with the profound understanding that joy is not just an emotion, but a revolutionary act—a way of being that builds and strengthens the fabric of community and connection. His legacy lives on in every space where poets gather, from our home at Avenue 50 Studio to the World Stage and everything in between those 11 miles, in every verse that celebrates our shared humanity, and in every moment we choose to come together in the spirit of creative communion.

As we honor Peter’s transition, we commit to nurturing the seeds of joy, unity, and artistic courage that he so lovingly planted. The path he has built for us remains strong and clear—a testament to his vision of poetry as words as music, as a force for connection and transformation. And love.

We invite our community to join us in celebrating Peter’s life by continuing to walk this path together, holding close his teachings.

Our hearts and prayers are with
all who hold him dear.

¡Peter J Harris, Presente!

With gratitude and love,
Alternative Field ❤️

2:00 PM
at Avenue 50 Studio

Poetry for Peace is a zine publication in collaboration with Avenue 50 Studio’s Art for Peace exhibit now open.

The zine aims to bring poets and their words together for a collective cause—to utilize poetry as a guiding source that may perhaps reverberate — as invocation — into the universe.

For many of us, the most powerful thing we can do is to collectively call on the power of art and poetry to evoke empathy, understanding, and change.

Join us for the open mic and zine fundraiser on December 17th at 2pm at Avenue 50 Studio to lend your spoken voice to the collective consciousness that is calling, begging for peace, for a ceasefire, for a safe return of all hostages.

Special edition zines will be available for sale at $10 each, with all sales dedicated to the Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF).

The was founded in 1991 by concerned humanitarians in the US, to provide free medical care to thousands of injured and ill children who lack local access to care. Current funding is going directly to their “Gaza Relief and Recovery Efforts,” which aims to address urgent humanitarian needs and support long-term recovery efforts in Gaza—this includes essential medical supplies, food, medical treatment, clean water, and other eventual necessities such as rebuilding healthcare facilities, providing trauma counseling and mental health support for the long term. More information about the PCRF can be found here: https://www.pcrf.net

For a reference to what peace could mean, the “Statement on the Escalation of Violence in Palestine and Israel” from the Women’s International League for Peace & Freedom, as well as a news post of theirs from August 17th, 2022 is a good place to start. Links in Linktree link in bio.
